Mercedes W11 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Guess we will see in a few weeks! Love Scarbs hand drawings though. Not sure about how square the inlet will be in the sidepod, however.

I used to think they were hand-drawn too. They are to a certain extent but it turns out they are mainly traced from existing photos etc. Still impressive but once you know it does take away some of the magic, a bit like finding out Santa is not real. That particular image then has a pretend notepad in the background for artistic effect.

I'd be amazed if the sidepods were that small considering how much "fun" they had last year with undercooling the PU...
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

The drawing shows a larger airbox than the W10. Also, Merc has apparently done a lot of work to make cooling more efficient. If that's the case, then that's how they could be able to shrink the sidepods as much.

And in addition, Scarbs drew the car here as being quite short - I'd think it will not be very much shorter than the W09 or W10, which makes that area ambitious, but not quite as small as it seems.

Is this based on some teasers of the car?
I've only seen the one where you could see the top SIPS mounting point.

that is how I imagine the nose of the Alfa Romeo/Sauber to be.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Pure imagination and speculation.

I don't think this drawing has anything to do with the W11, speculation or otherwise.

Literally nothing he says in any tweet links this to the W11. I don't know where @F1Krof deduced that from.

To some actual W11 speculation: I think the Merc PU is going to be back at the top this year.

I'm guessing from the Cape, although it could also be the McLaren it seems to me...

You're right, but you must consider that the higher inlets take cleaner air, which can cool the car better.
That's why I expect them to be a bit smaller than last year's ones.
Surely they adopted this configuration because they found some advantages in terms of car temperature.

Craig is 101% right about sidepod inlet shape and size.
