So. Sainz and Verstappen both on the same tyre, the C2.
Sainz 0.1s up in S1. 0.15s down in S2 and 0.5 down in S3. Obviously we don’t know the fuel loads but if they can bring some improvements for low speed then I think we have a very good car. Similar issue to last year when compared to the top 3 teams

And the red bull looks like the perfect car so we are not that far lets wait i see what they will bring for the next test

This year mclaren are in the best shape possible they are doing things rights not just lapping for the numbers their focus is the setup testing news parts with flow wiz everyday and heavy fuel runs and thats the right way to adopt in testing

Team is hiding lot lot lot of pace!
If slow cornering gets faster we are there .... a bit closer to top 3 , except maybe Merc ....
I loved the iconic McLaren-Honda
But most of all i love McLaren . After all first contact made with M23 that had a Ford Cosworth PU

Interesting laps, suggesting push lap, cool down, push lap with c2. Push laps with similar times ~1:18.6

Surely though our base car should be faster than Last Years Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull and the copies should not have been able to be as good as the real ones.

That is interesting. This is a 17 lap stint and I’m assuming there’s at least 30kg extra fuel on-board when Sainz pumped out that 1:18:409 early on. Every 10 kilos of fuel costs around 0.35 to 0.4 seconds ( These numbers are from reading the forum these past years. So, I don’t really have a source or anything. Correct me if I’m wrong). So, that’s a second in hand from fuel alone (conservative estimate).
The gap between C3 to C4 is 0.6s and it’s the same for C4 to C5. C2 to C3 is 0.7 second.

Based on the above corrections and engine modes (I’d guess that they aren’t really pushing it), I’d say that the MCL35 is capable of 1:15:500 or even low 1:15s on C5. I think that’s an alright time with more parts to come.

It's too early to start being worried about pace.

McLaren appear to be doing far more evaluation work that most teams. Started the test evaluating the base aero platform using front wing, bargeboard and floor concepts from last season so they have a direct comparison. Now they have a new front wing this morning, and again evaluation and comparison. This afternoon it's apparently a new cape and turning vanes under the nose. Next Wednesday they are bringing a new floor, possibly with new bargeboard elements. They are systematically bringing in new parts from front to back, so they understand each area specifically as opposed to trying to figure out the whole thing in one go. Smart move! I really don't think we'll see the car driven in anger until the final couple of days.

From the long runs the past 2 days, the consistency has been fantastic, they're clearly driving to a delta. Not sure if we can take much away from that either! Only thing we can really say for sure is they still look a bit weak in S3, but until they have the complete car giving it the full beans, I'll not be too worried.

Do you think what’s on the car is the final iteration of the front suspension? I’m wondering if the package expected next week could include tweaks in that area.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Didn't they say that almost all the car will be completely different? I think that is just a simple base.

RP20 and AT01 with 2020 engines vs W10 and RB15 with 2019 engines...

I'd say there's a real chance the Racing Point and Alpha Tauri will be faster head to head.

I think it will be more about bargeboard floor tweak and diffuser
