No, they don't use DRS. Only, if they need to overtake another like. Like in real race.

1st stint:
Ferrari 24.09 - C2 - 20 laps
RP 24.74 - C3 - 16 laps

2nd stint:
Ferrari 22.97 - C2 - 16 laps
RP 23.81 - C2 - 22 laps

3rd stint:
Ferrari 22.32 - C2 - 25 laps
RP 22.49 - C2 - 20 laps

Do you have comparisons (averages) with Mercedes/redbull race sims from previous days? I’ve scrolled back and done some crude math, and it appears Ferrari are much slower. I think average first stint from both merc and RB was in the 23’s

You can take times from @f1debrief on Twitter. But I wouldn't compare sims from last week and now. Track is reported to be slower.

Anyone got lap times for Vet’s race sim? I think it’s the first actual one Ferrari have attempted, so might give us the closest thing to an actual comparison so far...

That looks like driving to a delta. The last stint, for example, is on average slower than the second stint in last year's race when he was on C2s as well and presumably had more fuel onboard.

What you do notice though is a drop off in times in the shortest stint while no decernible degradation in the other two stints. Not sure if it is because the c2 tyres are very durable / hard or if Ferrari where going slow or if Ferrari have god tyre wear.

The worry for me is how inconsistent the last stint was. Times up and down, which could mean stability or balance issues, or maybe it's wind again.

The driver does his best to maintain the target across the stint only increasing or reducing pace according to conditions. In the next stint they drop the target by whatever precalculated delta to maintain the tyres until the stint after that one.

It makes sense because it's easier for the driver to manage a static target than one that moves every lap.

It makes sense because it's easier for the driver to manage a static target than one that moves every lap.

They surely must do this after they have pushed the tyres hard and to the limit in a previous test or else how would they know the tyres breaking point? Calculations are all good and well but you need that on track data.

Saw during live today on Skysports F1 fastest secor times, in sector 3 Kimi was fastest in AR 25,1 sec. Can that be true?

25,1 is by far the fastest time. Vettel on his best lap did 26,5 in sector 3.

He cut the chicane. Fastest S3 last year in qualifying as well as in this testing was set by Bottas each and it was a 25.8 both times.

I think Ferrari has the best approach in many years, they keep quite and they focus only on their program

You get that impression because of the tests that go live online, but basically every pre-season test are the same.

Good conversation going on today with Jolyon Palmer, Will Buxton, and the short little guy who's name I don't know (not Crofty).

They were calmly discussing the Ferrari issue for quite a while. Their conclusions were that either they are doing something that doesn't make any sense whatsoever as a testing strategy, OR the car just isn't very fast.
