I’d be very surprised if it got called off, the Australian government actually waited till all the Italian team members had arrived before banning Italians from travelling to Australia.

Trust me, it’s going ahead.
We'll see.

I see one or the other happening: Either the event is closed to the public (no spectators) or the race is cancelled completely. Given there seems to be indication that team members are infected will trigger a chain-reaction of quarantine to the point the race will be called off.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised it hasn't already and I can only conclude the reason behind it from not happening is... money.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

I think we are so close that it will go ahead now, even if its a no crowd event.

What I'm surprised by is why the teams are letting the drivers near the press etc. It would make a lot more sense to protect the asset and keep them in a bubble. Any fines for not attending press meetings and things like that would be nothing compared to having your driver unable to race.

It's been reported that 6 team members are infected as of now. Make of that what you will...
I think Lewis summed it up with his 'money' comment during the press conference...

There was a member of the governments expert panel on the ABC tonight, he said it was better that most ppl got infected now (at the gp) and developed immunity before the virus mutated.

Tbh I was surprised to hear that.

It was just reported live on Sky Australia, which is why I added 'make of that what you will...'

Are they talking about the results of the tests?

They said 'tested positive'. I'm sceptical of anything reported by Sky (or anyone else for that matter) but it was reported in the middle of suggesting that it was fine and there's nothing to worry about... It doesn't exactly fit their 'everyone should stop being babies' narrative, so i assume it could very well be true?

I live in Australia too and haven’t heard anyone from government (here or in any country) say anything like this. This would be quite unprecedented. Even if there is merit to that logic (on which I’m not qualified to comment), I didn’t think such a thing would ever be said publicly. At least not at this point in the virus’ spread.

Do you have a source?

That is a very weird way to put it. One can explore existing mutations here: https://nextstrain.org/ncov
