It was locked until it had been "cleaned", took about an hour from what I can tell.
It's not just about the number of cases at a race location, its about the potential importation of viruses by the F1 teams and visitors.... Both have to be controlled to a safe level or totally eliminated.AMG.Tzan wrote: ↑19 Apr 2020, 02:27All of the European races are cancelled...except for Hungary maybe which seems to have a very low number of cases! So Hungary might be the only EU race that goes ahead as planned...that is if the teams are allowed to travel of course! Austria also maybe?
My opinion is that the only way of starting the season in the summer (June-July, if things get better of course) is by racing in Australia, China or Bahrain where the number of cases has slowed down! Since the European races have been cancelled i don't see where they can be relocated in the calendar if the fly away races from September onwards do go ahead! The only EU race i want to see is Zandvoort...but i don't see it happening even in August! France, Spain, Italy and UK are all out of the question...no way we'll race there in 2020!
Another question is: which countries are suitable for racing in December-January in terms of climate?? Australia, Brazil and the Emirates maybe? Surely not Europe!
Marko himself surely wants the season to start as soon as possible. I think he's mad because this season the chances for his biggest wish (making Max the youngest WDC ever) to happen seemed to be highest after many years.
Do all teams need to accept the option of 2 consecutive races at the same track? As every track, Silverstone will suit certain cars more than others and I guess some teams won't be happy with that.Just_a_fan wrote: ↑19 Apr 2020, 11:29
That is one of the options being looked at, along with a race (or even two) at Silverstone.
Barcelona have said they're open to multiple races. F1 can only use fenced tracks this year i think, does that mean more aero tracks? i don't know, anyway Silverstone is quite varied isn't it, it has slow sections, if a car isn't any good at Silverstone it's not a very good F1 car afaics
So long as there is sufficient variation in which tracks they use, some double headers would be fair between teams. Do Ferrari get to veto the tracks they don't like?
10 tracks each with two races would be ok and would give a good spread of track types.
Stuart Pringle the MD mentioned the idea, but since then i've read it'd be too expensive to do the modifications to the barriers, for runoff and trackside entrances. Pity, but you can understand. i wish someone in F1 would mention sprinklers, they aren't expensive and water is extremely natural after all...bonjon1979 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2020, 21:11I see Silverstone is interested in doing two grand prix over consecutive weekends. I'd love to see a race one weekend running clockwise first time around and anti-clockwise second time around. Would that be possible or is run off etc designed around track running one direction?

Would certainly work at Silverstone although the two tracks would be a bit mickey-mouse. You'd also lose the great Beckett's corners except on the lap where you moved from one circuit to the other.hollus wrote: ↑19 Apr 2020, 21:20And here is a crazy idea for tracks with a "short" and a "long" layout, like Silverstone and potentially that version of Montmelo: Have a 60 lap race where all cars must do 30 laps of the short track and 30 laps of the long track, and leave it to the teams to decide which lap is on which circuit, even on the fly. That way overtaking is possible even in mickey-mouse tracks. Fake overtaking, like a pit stop pass, of course, but it could provide something different for multiple races in the same track and it could be entertaining until teams optimize the last drop our of the concept.
2 races at Silverstone one of them is bound to be wetbonjon1979 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2020, 21:43I love a sprinklerizzy wrote: ↑19 Apr 2020, 21:21Stuart Pringle the MD mentioned the idea, but since then i've read it'd be too expensive to do the modifications to the barriers, for runoff and trackside entrances.
