Verstappen - I think he is locked in at Red Bull for the long run.

Does anyone really think that Hamilton would sign a contract with Ferrari?

He has the #1 Status from the first race at Merc at least since bottas signed up.
He had the best car on the grid since almost a decade
He does not want to have such a young and strong team mate as LeClerc would be.
He knows that driving for Ferrari is a different animal in regards to PR, Team Organization, emotions etc...

He would be absolutely stupid to jump on a dead horse....... And i think he is rather smart in that respect
There is no defined #1 at Mercedes, unlike Ferrari (for example)
The car wasn't the best in at least two recent seasons (when Vettel should have won the title)
He wouldn't care
Driving for Ferrari is definitely different to Mercedes (and most other teams too). They'll chuck you under the bus if something goes wrong/they prefer a different route. Ask Michael how that feels...

Agreed about jumping. It would be silly.

Sainz to Ferrari is looking likely. Based on various news outlets.
I think Giovinazzi is on pole for that seat. I don't see Sainz playing cuddle bunnies with Leclerc.

Wehrlein comes with an attitude problem it seems. Unless his dropping from F1 has made him reconsider himself. If his sense of entitlement is still there, I'd expect to see issues in the team.
More unsubstantiated claims, his team principals and Toto say otherwise.
ISTR comments coming from team members he'd worked with suggested he's a bit of a diva. Maybe he's grown up.
We heard 1 rumor from force India when he tested(not even drove) for them, and then they chose ocon who went on to crash into his teammate several times.

oh how lovely everybody dreams ..... keep me smiling guys

but i stick to two things:
1. RIC won't go to Ferrari because he could have stayed at RB then, LEC has every control at Ferrari now and Ferrari aren't known for putting in two #1 drivers, when they did..... well the result has been seen last season
Ricciardo left Red Bull because they were playing the "it's going to be Max" game at every turn. The team had decided to bet on Max winning the title so Daniel was getting shut out, in effect. So he jumped before he was shafted.

Didn't the Ferrari contract have some special clauses like that they need to have a world champion in their car?
There are numerous instances where they did not have one. Most recent one is 2007. A year when Kimi won WDC. Neither Massa nor Kimi contested as Champions, but for championship.
Yes, that's 13 years ago. I think there's been talk that that Ferrari's contract with F1 states that they need to have a champion in their car. So it's Hamilton or Alonso then.
How can a contract between Ferrari and the FIA / FOM be enforced to ensure they have a champion in the car? It can't. No one can force a driver to go to a team. If the extant champions want to drive elsewhere then they'll go elsewhere.

Aside from what Ferrari wants, I also would not see any reason for Max to want to move to Ferrari. He's happy at RB, and Ferrari have been consistently under-delivering for years. Moving to Ferrari would be a big gamble with a large chance of not paying off, and would require to fight for a position in the team that at RB he already has. My bet is on Ferrari pushing Leclerc as their next potential champion, and seeking a stable second driver. And for that I rank Perez higher than you did in your whole-field analysis. He's consistently quick, and mainly where he is now because he made a poor decision moving to McL when it was in full decline. Of course, he does seem to be happy with the pink arrow now, but he being paired with stroll means he may not forever enjoy 1st-driver position there. Hulkenberg, I would like it, but I expect less so.

It will be Sainz replacing Vettel according to rumors.

What does Ferrari think?

We all know how well it went with Verstappen.

A final stint at Ferrari to bolster his bank account and potentially make him the undisputed all-time greatest (statistically at least) driver to date.

Not possible - there are some statistics that he can't beat. Fangio and Clark are ahead on several, for a start. Michael is ahead on one or two too.

I'm thinking % wins (he's 4th on that list), % poles (he's only 5th on the list), he's miles behind Michael on number of fastest laps (77 to 47), % podium finishes he's behind Fangio and Fagioli (although he's miles ahead of anyone else). There are others too.

As for his bank account - I wonder how much Ferrari would pay compared to Mercedes? He's on a reputed $40m a year at Mercedes. Would Ferrari top that significantly? I'm not so sure.

If max gets a title or two at Red Bull, you can bet Ferrari will forget such things if there's a chance of hiring him. Some memories are easily forgotten in F1 when circumstances require it.

Yeah Sainz being reported to sign in the next 48hrs. So a swap with Vettel is looking likely.

Maybe it was between Ferrari and Marlboro, I might remember it incorrectly, I'm sure someone else can remember this. Of course every clause can me negotiated.

Sainz means Ferrari is going to number one and number two driver.

Red Bull should take Vettel back, but I assume they think it would be fireworks.
