“almost oval” Bahrain track

Hope they choose the first layout which will have one fast corner similar to Hockenheim turn 1

Formula 1 managing director of motorsports Ross Brawn has suggested that Bahrain could host two races on very different track configurations – including one on “an almost oval track” that doesn’t include the familiar tight infield section.

The original turn 1 makes for much better overtaking though, in turns 1 and 4. So I would like to see them stick to the original T-1, 2 ,3 combo.

Looks almost like the old Zandvoort track. Just different dunes.

We would have that layout anyway, but changing turn 1 creates an overtaking opportunity while different, like into stove

Looks like a version of the Red Bull Ring - not much in the way of slow stuff. Almost like the FIA is trying to find a series of tracks that help Red Bull this year...

Red Bull learned a lot in NASCAR. Now they push for more "almost oval" race tracks on the F1 calendar.

If it is a go,it is going to be fast lap,a lap time around 50 seconds..

Good point, plus it will be about 84 laps!!! but wont last very long. If its 50 seconds a lap , that will be a Grand Prix lasting 1hr 10mins.

With race fuel onboard they may be lapping 53-55 seconds a lap.

50-52 seconds is for low fuel qualfying laps.

Actually, run this and the endurance layout (the one with the extended wiggly track). It would make it a Monza style setup and a high downforce setup in back to back races. That would be an interesting comparison.

Agreed. Though with a faster T1/2 the current T4 becomes a bigger braking zone, depends where DRS is placed too. I wonder if the track is on any sims.
