On pure pace we were never expecting to reach the podium, the Mercedes and Red Bulls are clearly ahead, but it’s days like this when it becomes attritional that the team need to ready to pounce to pick up big results.

Massive respect to the strategy guys on the pitwall, the pit stop guys who double stacked on the first safety car and of course the drivers who both drove excellently to deliver (I think?) the biggest team points haul from a single race since 2014!

Drama aside though, I think on race pace we are slightly ahead of RP, well ahead of Ferrari and Renault and on par with ALB. Not a bad place to start the year... Hope the Silverstone package puts us closer to VER

Yeah, it's very close. This is the ballpark where a good update package can put you ahead. In any case, we are now in a position where we can defend and keep positions if one from the top 2 starts way back. This will help with points hauls. It was quite sad watching Verstappen start from P20 and overtake McLaren on track to finish P5.

25 points is a great points haul for the team today, especially in a season that we are not sure how many races there are.

What an awesome race for Mclaren to kick the season off. I was so giddy with happiness after that last lap, my mom was asking me afterwards if I was crying or laughing

But, we could have got that second place. Don’t know what happened to Lando for a couple of laps there. He took a very tight and weird line into turn 2, I think, behind Perez and then Leclerc quickly got him. Definite room for improvement in race craft there.

Ohh and I chuckle to think about how Ron Dennis would’ve reacted to that jumping hug Lando gave to Zak post race

Lando outbraked himself before that turn and that put him into a weak position and out of rhythm

I now want to see all those knowitall people who predicted Mclaren would be behind Renault, Racing Point, Ferrari and a lot of other teams. Mclaren is answering on track and not with words.

Fastest laps for the race... This is probably the biggest highlight of today in terms of the car’s performance... Clocking a Fastest Lap is something that exceeded all my expectations

The most important thing is that we again improved last year's car. This is the way that is going to get us back to the top. Maybe in another track we will be slower. Maybe we will be unlucky sometimes. But our car is a lot better and we will also have more updates. On a different note, I wonder if we gonna stop watching Tyre Management 1 in the future and we go back to Formula 1...

i called it chubby and conservative looking! i stand by that fully, it was all about how aggressive it looked compared to others, it was not about its performance cause no one could know and thank god its a clear step forward, so great work by the team, fat or not and with a decent upgrade package coming up...

and like mentioned, most important, the trend is confirmed!! thats of insane importance when rebulding and people need to retrust, not least for sponsers and ind investors, add to that merc and daniel...
