I don’t think for 1 minute Max would try anything aggressive Or clumsy on him, he knows he needs to finish this race and he has a chance of winning, albeit slim. He will have his head on the long game, he showed that last year already

Lando needs to watch out for Seb who unlike Max, will go in hard. He has upped his starts towards the end of last year now his building confidence, so he may be able to challenge Ric & Gasley at the start and get P7. Them he needs to settle in and bide his time to pass Ocon. I think because of the he will start on the soft or he will be a sitting duck

Strategy will be interesting, the race seems to favour 2 stops. Those on a 1 stop struggled to make them last, last week, even with 2 SC periods. Last year Max won with a 2 stop too, but with cooler temps & new tyres to start the race perhaps 1 stop might be doable
I disagree that a 1 stop isn’t the best strategy... Last week, both Mercedes and Perez went for the one stop strategy and they had enough tire left... And that’s considering that the first stop came a few laps earlier than expected due to the first safety car... The reason Perez struggled at the end is because Mclaren made a better strategy call and pit for a second time under the SC and were in new Mediums versus Perez’ tired ones... Similar with Albon who came with new Softs against used Hards on the Mercedes...

Without the Second Safety car, there wasn’t enough pace difference between the used tires and new ones to circumvent a 20+ second gap (pit time).

If Carlos would have hooked his best sectors together, he could have been P2!!!

I think that shows best sectors throughout the whole Qualifying. In Q3 there was a lot more rain so the laptimes were slower than Q2. Maybe his best sectors are from previous sessions, so I don't think P2 was on the table. (On pure performance, otherwise if Carlos had gotten a little more out of the car he could have since Max messed up his final lap.)

Out of all that, I would say that the McLaren chassis is the one that stands out to me.

Two cars qualifying in the top six in less than ideal conditions, with just a quarter-of-a-second between them, shows that the drivers have confidence in the car.

As these two consecutive races at the same track have shown, the team knows how to get the best out of its chassis in both the dry and the wet conditions.

If it can keep this sort of performance up and Ferrari doesn’t alter its approach to its lack of performance, McLaren might just be able to move beyond that coveted fourth place that it took in last year’s constructors’ championship and move up to third.

This is off topic but Fernando Alonso will be back next year with Renault. I'm not sure how many years he will continue to race but would you give him another chance in Mclaren now that we are reaching the top in the next two years?

Personally I would have given him another chance to prove himself with a championship winning car like Mclaren will be in the next two years.
I would say McLaren disagree as I’m sure there would have been an option to bring him back... seeing as he will be driving the indie 500 for them later this year

Personally I’m not looking forward to McLaren going head 2 head with him in a Renault next year. He’s an awesome racer but I’m sure Ric & Lando will rise to the occasion

As for McLaren fight for the championship in the next 2 year, I have my fingers crossed but that’s a really tall order
Sounds like you are looking forwarding to it, just not confident of a positive out come for McLaren!

That was the shame in all those McLaren Honda years, Alonso in an uncompetitive car. Great drivers in competition is one of the reasons we love the sport.

It's not really crazy if you think that in 2018 we were 2 seconds off the pace and now the car is only 0.5 to 0.7 seconds off the pace. If they keep making strides it's gonna take 2 more years to have a Championship Winning Car on par with Mercedes. We will soon have a new upgraded latest technology F1 Simulator back at the Paragon who will produce even better cars. It's not really crazy to set up ambitions.

On another note I am glad that the team keeps being humble and work their asses off to obtain that first place at some point.
Don't forget your basing this on McLaren's competitiveness at one track. Re bullring is a short with few corners, it tends to tighten up the pack. Let's wait for SPA.

Spa is probably going to suit the car I reckon. What’ll show the full picture is a combination of low and high speed tracks like Hungary and Silverstone.

But I think since late last year their focus on an all-around competitive package really shows it’s been carried over to this year. They were fast in all sectors in Austria after all.

I forgot about Lando’s pain problem. So if it’s still an issue, in proper perspective, he’ll probably be very happy with his performance. Great job all round by the team.
Lando's back problem occurred when his body was quite stressed in the car, in the wet he was likely under less strain due to the much lower G's. Might still have been a problem for him, but not like on a dry track. Maybe just not a great day at the office.

Remember when Zak squeezed him after the first podium and Lando said oh my god he must have broken a rib there.....

Is it his back or his chest? I’ve seen both mentioned, but in quotes from him, he says chest, which is also mentioned on F1.com.

If it is a rib that's popped from that bear hug, then that could cause both back and chest pain.

Nothing to do for it other than pain relief and as much rest as possible either.
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Great result for the team, the car handles very well in those conditions! That's a reflection on what James Key brings to the team in terms of the chassis' mechanical grip and balance. Was a hallmark of his at Toro Rosso, who also ran well in the wet.

Same as last weekend, clean start for Carlos and bring the car home in P5 or higher if the front guys have issues. Lando will have a tough race with the Renaults and Ferraris around him, but should have the pace to see a potential 6th place.

Great to see the RPs way out of the running. Contentious topic, but in the spirit of a prototype constructor championship, long may their misfortune continue.
Agree... :D :D
