Is there not more tyre grip available with DAS engaged?

EDIT: For the race start I mean; so DAS engaged off the line?
With the front tyres? Why do the front tyres matter during the start? :)

Well, more grip into turn one

And when the Mercedes W11 has to start on Mediums (for better strategy), but behind are people on softs, it might be an important advantage to get as good a getaway as possible, so I would imagine DAS being a good thing to have there.

DAS only effects the front tyres though. For a good start the focus needs to be on the rears.

During one of the practice sessions and also on Lewis' qualifying lap, I noticed a few of occasions where the car while at the exit phase of a corner (increasing throttle application), would vibrate and sound as if it had run over a typical serrated kerb.

It can be see and heard in the following video at 0:22, 0:35 and 1:00. I would if it has anything to do with tyre pressures?:

It's the curbs.

Image

They're not as serrated as aggressively as those in Austria, but they're still textured. I've driven out at COTA in and AMG GT S a few times and you would be surprised how gnarly the curbs can be, especially if you're not on-the-ball with your placement/lines.

Also, the audio is also not 100% dead-on synced between the onboard mic and the video.

Zibby, the car doesn't touch the kerbs at all during 0:22 and 0:35. At 1:00 there's a pretty clear separation denoting the sound from the car and the sound from the kerbs.

It's the kerbs. The video and audio are out of sync. If not the kerbs, it could be just tire vibration.

I promise I’m not being obtuse or trying to start an argument, I’m genuinely intrigued.

Can someone explain by what mechanism it’s legal for DAS to alter toe angle while under Parc ferme conditions?

Say any other team wanted to adjust toe between qualifying and the race, even if only by the same small margain that DAS allows - this would be illegal. Is there some loophole that means if it’s changed while in motion (or something) that makes this legal? Or do the other teams make these changes to toe also?

Thanks in advance

DAS is considered not a suspension system, but a steering system. So it does not breach parc ferme rules

Toe angles change when you steer the vehicle and that’s why das is considered steering and not suspension...

I've noticed the on on 0:22 yesterday. It caught my attention immediately and still curious as to what caused it.

I didn't notice anything at 0:35 or 1:00 however.

Its definitely not the kerb, he doesnt touch the exit kerb on turn 2 at all. Its likely tyre vibration due to the rediculous forces that car is able to apply to them in qualifying

Does anyone have any pictures with the rear of the car when it's smoking?
Is the smoke coming out of the exhaust/wastegate or out of the breather pipe?
