1. Tyre change ban in 2005
2. Aggregate qualiyfing Saturday and Sunday in early 2005

Off throttle exhaust blowing ban in Silverstone 2011
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Ban on driver advice how to use the settings and car status during the race in 2016.

Traction control somewhere around 1996-1998 😁

Are we counting things like 6 wheels and suction fans?

Traction control ban was 1994-2000 and then again 2008-till now.

Stop it! I have 2 car posters in my garage, the Tyrrell p34 and the Chaparral 2j. I still long to find that alternate universe where the F1 and CanAm series from the 70's had a playoff (raceoff) set of races amongst each of their top ten.

Yeah, but around 96 teams were already developing crude alternative forms of traction control.

That was such a garbage idea! So relieved they dropped it. I don't know why they keep trying to mess with qualifying. It's one of the things that 99% of the time works brilliantly.

advanced telemetry with the ability for engineers to tinker with the car OTA in 2002. IIRC the act of OTA changes was banned shortly afterwards

That were more short lived innovations cut short by rule changes, like DAS, DD and F-ducts.

I think the topic is more about stuff the FIA thought “hey let’s do this” realising a few races later, “well... it looked good on paper”, like the radio ban.

How about the "X wings" and various other aero bits and pieces that show up for a race or 2 and then are banned for "safety" reasons???

Was it Arrows who had the crazy, small, but very tall wing on the nose of the car? Remember that thing? I think it survived one weekend .

Nah, bunny ears and wings in strange places are more short lived innovations, not short lived rules.
