What if all the engine makers leave?
Cosworth V12 for everybody. =D>

They already built a nice 3.9L 65-degree V12 for Gordon Murray Automotive, with 653 @ 11,500rpm with 60,000 mile rebuild interval.

Put pneumatic valves on it, up the rev limit to make 1020hp @ 18,000rpm, lower the rebuild interval to 5,000 miles (obviously strengthening the bottom end as appropriate) and you have yourself a great racing engine. :D
So spec engines are okay if they’re what you want? Lol.

It’s a cool engine, but I think you’re being optimistic with the rebuild time in racing trim.

I think it’s pretty clear Ferrari’s problems are more than just horsepower. The car is a dog relative to its competition.

The low drag talks are interesting. I don’t think it’s so much low drag, but higher speeds mean the drag is the same. Same goes for downforce. You’re not reducing downforce so to speak, just moving the amount it produces up to a higher speed.

That said, when the SCCA Runoffs were held on the Daytona road course, drivers showed up with low drag / low rolling resistance set ups. After the first two sessions, drivers were reverting back to their regular set ups as drivers who stayed with that from the get go were setting much faster lap times. Daytona would be a much more horsepower heavy track than Spa. Moral of the story is don’t underestimate how much time there is in the corners, even on “horsepower” tracks.

What?
"You’re not reducing downforce so to speak, just moving the amount it produces up to a higher speed."

When people talk of more or less DF, they mean for a given speed. Otherwise mentioning it is a completely pointless endeavour.

Looks like we'll have an ideal nightmare scenario for the race, where a part of the circuit gets wet while the rest stays dry. It'll make the decision to use inters or dry tyres especially difficult.

Nightmare? I'd say it's a dream scenario. The Last time that happened it was fun.

Crazy how much Ferrari looses In S2, S1 and S3 are alright though.
I'd put on more downforce.
Probably wanting to not be blown by on the straights, keep cars behind on the twisties.
But first there have to be some cars behind.

Boy it seems Lewis has really Toto'd up!

Mercedes apparently fighting Racing Point and Bulls are quicker. Talk about insulting fans day in day out!! #-o

Was anybody getting a bit weird feeling when the session got red flagged and for the first 30 seconds we got no images of a stopped car.

Was a little worried in FP1 about the Mercedes not being far out front. Not so much now, Mercedes less than a tenth off fastest right now, but losing best part of a second on the straights. They have that car turned waaaaaaay down .
They did? Their speed traps were pretty similar to everyone else though.

Where the hell did they get info that Mercedes are 8 tenths faster than Red Bull over one lap?

They have access to data to correct for fuel and engine modes.

Merc had new ICEs, MGU-Hs, and TCs today, and whenever they fit a fresh spec PU, they have historically run it very turned down for the first few sessions. AMuS confirmed this as well.

In Barcelona a few weeks ago, they had Merc's single lap pace advantage estimated at 8 tenths, and it turned out to be a tick over 7 tenths in qualifying. They've been pretty reliable this year with their data.

The smugness  they repaved a single corner worth mentioning, rest of the track is the same, yet you put it like they redid the whole track silverstone 2019 style. Get a grip.
Which corner was it?
I responded to you a few posts back with an article and a quote that listed everything that was resurfaced (not much).
Oh sorry I didn't see that.

"Those include a patch just before Turn 1, the approach to Turn 8 and the area on which the top two drivers on the grid line up."

So the resurface actually enhanced only one corner which is Turn 8. T7 probably benefitted a tiny bit from that as well. I doubt the laptime improvement in that section was worth more than 0.1s.

Renault looks interesting.
