McLaren was faster than Red Bull in both Q2 and Q3. For qualy at least, it's Mercedes, McLaren, Racing Point, Red Bull, Renault.

Nice graphic, however it looks like a Commodore 64

McLaren generally don’t show their hand on Friday, whether that’s deliberate or it’s them just being meticulous i can’t say. But they looked strong already yesterday, more than they usually do on Friday, so I became quite optimistic. It’s great to see that translate into solid grid slots, hoping for an equally strong showing in the race.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Its the first time though that Mclaren has shown some genuine pace compared to the other midfields however I wonder if Monza was just an one time thing due to the straights.

Could be that, could also be the party-mode ban, could also be a combination. Traditionally, midfield wise, you would expect Renault to have a solid advantage here but it didn't happen so, let's see.

Monza is a very specific track... In addition, the weaknesses of the car are still there, the only difference is that this particular track doesn’t penalize the team as much since there aren’t many slow corners to deal with.

Things may change in the following tracks, but as stated in the last few races, the order will probably change from track to track, as long as the team is in the fight in most tracks and maximizes their opportunities, they can fight for P3 - P4 in the championship.

I wonder how the high tyre pressures will effect the race tomorrow?

If we would use the Formula1.com long race pace assessment, it probably wouldn’t look too good for Mclaren... But they got the Qualifying order pretty wrong this race.

The race should be a one stopper with a long first soft stint and then onto the hard tire

I’m skeptical that moving to Mercedes is the right move.

Not just because this fast tracks, but because it’s a gamble and another transition year for an engine that MIGHT not be better or MIGHT not fit the car well.
I do not believe the team are moving to Mercedes because of significant performance gain, but more because of the chance to become the factory Mercedes team again, when Mercedes shareholders decide to quit their own team. That chance is quite likely in the upcoming years. Especially because of the financial crisis.
Here is the problem with that plan: I think in that scenario Mercedes will chose to have RP as the factory team instead.

Stroll is best buddies with Toto, Toto has money in AM, and from what I understand so does Mercedes.

Why would Mercedes pick McLaren rather than RP?

In the pre race video on Sky an old Toto interview revealed that Mercedes have calculated that the advertising revenue the F1 success has generated is equivalent to several BILLION dollars, so I would ask why would they contemplate leaving. McLaren have decided to use the perceived best engine on the current F1 so I applaud them for that. To get a works deal now is probably not going to happen.

Well it's the Bigger Team and one of the most historic teams in F1 and the one most likely to succeed overthrowing Mercedes in the coming years.

I'm not sure how this is still a debate. If anyone doubts that Mercedes is still by far the best engine out there, they must be watching a different F1 than I am. The results from Merc but also RP and even Williams make that amply clear. Taking on that engine is a no-brainer. It has nothing to do with Works status. I also agree with those that say that Aston Martin is FAR more likely than McLaren to become a Works team if that comes to pass -- esp. since Merc supplies engines for AM road cars.
