Wow Mercedes dropped the ball big time with that. Now Stroll has a chance to win! Hopefully the McLarens get back up there, but Gasly is also in a prime spot. This race just got interesting!
The whole first safety car is a joke. Fake entertaiment and fake redestribution of drivers....
100% fake SC for 'entertainment'.

Will be interesting to see if Mercedes pull Halimton out of the race now to save the engine for the next races.

You have to serve the stop n go in 3 laps time right?
it has to be served within 3 laps under green flag conditions, or you will be black-flagged.

That was my thought. Even in that Mercedes, Hamilton won't be able to get in to the points. May as well park it and save the PU/gearbox.

This really is Stroll's chance, can he come alive and chase this win?

Then again maybe not, if he can only take like for like tires during a red flag.

Coz he was 15 sec behind, and by that time the team noticed the notification of closed pitlane
Which Mercedes were asleep at the wheel and missed the clear notification from Race Control. Not good enough by Mercedes.
Yeah, the team should have warned it. The Sky team noticed it
No they didn’t. They first wondered what was happening when Sainz DIDN’T come in. Then they sussed it out.

Either way, it’s done! And it should make the second half of the race pretty interesting!

Agreed! One of the reasons I dislike watching NASCAR with the pointless and unnecessary yellows to "spice" things up. This isn't the WWE

So standing starts right? :D
When the clerk of the course decides it is safe to call in the safety car a message “STANDING START” will be sent to all teams via the official messaging system, all FIA light panels will display
2020 F1 Sporting Regulations43/8325 August2020©2020 Fédération Internationale de l’AutomobileIssue 11“SS” and the car's orange lights will be extinguished. This will be the signal to the teams anddrivers that it will be entering the pit lane at the end of that lap.At this point the first car in line behind the safety car may dictate the pace and, if necessary, fall more than ten car lengths behind it.Once the safety car has entered the pit lane all cars, with the exception of those that were in their garage at the time the race was suspended (see Article 41.3), must return to the grid, take up their grid positions and follow the procedures set out in Article 36.109to 36.1413

Stroll can't change tyres and take that as his tyre change. He can only put the same spec back on so he still has to do his "proper" tyre change.
