From that race footage it does look like it will be very hard to overtake.

Lovely sweeping corners though, looks like it was built for the Merc, they'll love it
Agree with this assessment.

To add on, I think with the new engine mode TD, it's going to be extremely difficult to overtake for the remainder of the year (irrespective of the OT button). Qualifying is going to become more important than ever.

I was hoping the hair pin turns would work similarly to Circuit Gilles Villenueve to set up passing down the straights.... But seems not.. Can only hope.

funny, i actually got the complete opposite, i'm seeing loads of overtaking potential.

Those F3 cars are able to follow very close, the field was very compact and the racing looked great, no end product though.

I really really hope I'm wrong but I can't see the F1 cars being bunched up like that, it will be too hard for them to follow. Fingers crossed anyway.

Have you considered the extra width of a F1 car?

It’s not that narrow, 10-14m Not compared to Zandvoort for instance, 8-12m. Following in the sweeping corners will probably be the issue.

Has the location of the DRS zone/s been released? Hopefully everywhere there’s a bit of straight track... DRS on the run to the final corner would probably help with overtaking. The run from 3-4 is probably feasible as a 3rd location.

35°C and those long sweeping corners is going to result in tyre abuse surely. That could liven things up, along with overheating for the usual front runners.

A big, long straight, essentially 5 chicanes, mostly pretty fast, and 4 neck breaking corners, 2 right and 2 left.

Mercedes will pick up ENORMOUS time on the field in Turns 1, 8/9, 12, and 14. The neck breakers.

Still glad we are going to see what F1 looks like at Mugello.
8 & 9 are essentially flat for everyone, Mercedes won't gain any time, might lose some time actually, from Cassanova, all the way to turn 10.

The chicanes are interesting because the entry is shallower than the exit on the two critical ones. There really are only 3 chicanes on the whole track. After turn 1, before the fast right hand kink, and after the high speed flat out section.

Getting the braking right to set up the exit is very tricky. For turn 10, you're left side tires are about to melt off the wheel, and you have to torture them more on the entry for the chicane.

The first chicane it is very easy to brake way too late, but it's also easy to brake too soon. Very understeer corner and the exit as well.

Pretty excited for all the unknowns at the first circuit this year that isn't ultra familiar to the drivers and the teams. Could be a few surprises in store.
Will it help Ferrari at all, with their assumed best knowledge? That wouldn't be so bad, if they were able to be at the sharp end, or at least closer to it.

So many medium speed corners. Mercs are going to be hilariously fast here

I'm guessing in quali the Mercs will be very close to if not flat through 6 and 7, excited to see that.

6-10 possibly, should look incredible onboard and with the right trackside camera angles. There’s some nice elevation changes, dips and crests to excite the camera guys also, although I can’t imagine they'll have had much opportunity to set funky things up with this race only being announced a few weeks ago.

Everyone will be flat after 6, there's little difference between going flat in 6 or doing a brief lift, but it let's you set up for 7 better which lets you take a better line through 8 & 9. There's a tire management component involved because the soft will almost certainly overheat through this section. You'll need reserve grip for the long turn 12.

Looks like it will consistently be 30+ degrees.

Yes indeed. The talk so far has mostly been about 8/9 but those will be easy flat for everyone, so my point was mainly to say 6/7 are more interesting to look at.

I totally agree getting 6 wrong will compromise and trying to be fully flat might induce that, although it might be easy enough not to matter for some. The tire temperature is a very interesting challenge for that section. Very keen to see how it unfolds!
