Hamilton choosing to take the fast chicane before the last corner properly instead of choosing the faster route by cutting it, more time left on the table there.

At least he has caught up slightly but Bottas had a really poor last corner so let's see.

Seems like absolutely no one except verstappen can properly take final corner. all weekend verstappen has been gaining loads of time there by just sticking to the fricken apex instead of running off into the country side.

edit. just as I write this, graphic more of less confirms it.

He almost certainly lost time in S2 because of the Racing Point, unless Merc find extra with their party mode this is game on.

Interesting results at the end of FP3... No real surprises with the Top 3, aside from how close Max is running with the Mercs at this stage... still think Mercedes will make it a 1,2 once they stretch their legs, but could make it interesting if he is that close ahead of the race.

Racing Point seem to be a bit more competitive this weekend (might be helped due to Stroll running the new parts too), Alpha Tauri looking good too with both drivers. Charles might be in the mix for a decent result for qualifying and the race (surprised by how far down the field Vettel is in comparison). Seeing a Haas in 10th is also surprising with Grosjean... maybe the car working well here surprisingly?

Renault and McLaren are a bit of a surprise... maybe they've yet to turn the engine up a bit more, but neither of them in the Top 10 is a bit surprising.

Should be a really tight one for qualifying.

Yes, it completely bewilders me how ex-F1 drivers (Davidson, Di Resta) could be so inept at analysing telemetry.... Yes, Bottas had a wildly steeper acceleration curve DUE TO the fact that he pretty much squared off the corner, was on the accelerator much later from a much lower speed, whereas - at the middle of the shown curve - Max was still in the middle of the friggin corner, applying a butt-load of steering angle (= much more roll resistance)... But they of course interpret it as undeniable proof of Mercedes' engine superiority...

Square corner, better driving. Good. Must remember.

Or one could say that he's properly exploting the non-enforcement of track limits in that corner ...

"The track limits at the exit of Turns 3, 5, 9, 11 and 15 will not be monitored as the defining limit at each of these locations is the gravel trap."

Max is fully off track looooong before the curb starts...

Image

everyone else is running wide where the actual curb starts, Bottas even kept it fully on track ...

That's how you're supposed to do it. Half a meter more and your brake ducts are swallowing kitty litter.

Hamilton infuriates me, just chilling in the garage whilst Bottas is straight out hammering it.

If I was struggling on a circuit I'd want to be getting out and back on it ASAP.
That’s what he does, your out there giving it your all and he’s chilling in the garage eating ice cream struggling to wrangle the track in. Then you go out for qualifying and he snatches pole from you, then runs off into the distance to watch the sunset with his feet up...

Infuriating isn’t it..

Entrance is worse. Cars decelerating in the racing line, cars using the pit entry as part of the circuit...

Famous last words, I'll be very surprised to see him on pole today.

Horner and Binotto are having a little meeting, what would be it about?

I find this track limit stuff so strange. At least 1 wheel has to stay inside the white line? It's not difficult.
