My guess is that they haven't found a good enough set up yet

The car looks loose and twitchy at the rear particularly through S1. I would be surprised if the lack of pace is due to the PU. I think it’s more down to setup struggles.

Just thought...
Sky referred to Mugello as an elongated Hungaroring... we weren’t particularly strong in Hungary either.....

Clearly not suiting us at the moment but frankly starting P11 and P12 might not be at all bad for tyres.

That said, we want to see the team learning from any weaknesses so improving at these circuits is the big need.

The team claims that a certain blowing wind is hampering their car balance. What do you guys think? Why is the team having so many ups and downs in performance? Is it possible that we are still weak in terms of aerodynamics but very powerful in speed circuits?

Sensitivity of our car in different wind conditions has been an issue for years now.. I hope they can learn more about why we are having these issues.. If in 2 years we are fighting at the front, we can’t have anymore of this.

It wouldn’t have mattered much in FP1 and FP2 since they are using engine number 1 (first of the season) in those sessions... The engine in FP3 is the race engine and yes, they could be taking it easy to prolongue it’s life a little more.

It’s also possible that Renault didn’t get the right “one mode” for this race... They can change it from race to race and Ferrari for example could be pushing their more than Renault here.

Maybe, but ultimately, we aren't fast here, even if we have a race setup. But tyres will be key tomorrow and P11 won't be terrible.

Watching Norris at P15 in Q1 is scary... We should be faster than both Williams and both Haas at least... But is very close so far between P5 and P17 with roughly 4 tenth covering the whole mid field.

It's kind of scary today considering how well they did at Monza. Is it possible that they haven't managed to find the right set up or perhaps their aerodynamics are their weakness and were fast in Monza because the circuit needed very few aerodynamics?

That's more like the normal order, Leclerc dragging that ferrari round impressively again though

Car is setup to protect the front tyres tommorow and it's hurting the balance for outright pace.

Still though if they don't find 3 more tenths in Q2 I don't think they will go through Q2.

Why though to protect the front tyres? What is their strategy for tomorrow?

Simply put different tracks... It isn’t only about how well / bad Mclaren is doing at this track, it is also other teams performing better here than in Monza (for example RP).

For now the difference is 3 tenths compared to RP who is third fastest at the moment. Can the car find 3 more tenths or is that the best we can do? What about the set up to protect the front tyres? Do they target a strategy who will give them lots of gains tomorrow? It also bothers me a little that RP started getting parts from the Mercedes 2020 car. It's insulting to the F1 spirit.
