Maybe McLaren, like me, think more like Engineers and less like spies... that whole spy, espionage thing didnt work out so well for them last time.

Camera housing on the nose?
Not a bad idea... but I think they paint it onto the leadin edges and them the car loose.

I like how it got onto HK's visor... they should use it in the race to blind the following driver... a whole new era of GP driving.
Don't forget the banana, red shells and gold star

Methinks competitors might have a lot to spy on with this technique. Why not use some sort of transparent to the naked eye liquid which then becomes visible with a dye - maybe by spraying on top of it?
Or something that shows up under ultra-violet light? ;)

If you have it so you have to spray on it, you risk contaminating the result.
UV dye would be perfect, and if it is available, we may have been looking at it for YEARS and never knew it!

Anyways,

The more that I look at it, it looks as if they are concentrating on the wake of the new front suspension setup. I don't know why, and unless McMerc makes a statement about it, neither does anyone else, but it is deffinately interesting!

Maybe it's to help with understanding the changes in air flow when the front wing moves. The front wings run pretty much close to stalling in normal trim, and they were just checking the changes in front wings wake to the sidepods :?: :?:

On the other hand it could simply be McLaren's take on Honda's "Earth Dream"! The more I think about it, there are so many ways they could have hidden it that it probably doesn't give away much.. I mean, lime green? Seriously?

They could do that if the spray came from the nose(your idea) with different color paint for different front wing positions, but how can they differentiate what green paint is for when? unless they set each side of the front wing defferent angles and painted the whole car.

Or maybe it doesnt give much away so no need to hide it.

If so, then we can expect more paint test tomorrow....

Video of today's testing at Jerez:

Piquet had a fearsome moment (at ~3'25), I suspect the R29 have too much weight on the front now, making it a bit understeery, and making counter-steering VERY treacherous!

I don't think that I would degrade the top 1% of all engineering talent on this planet by comparing them to you in any way as equals. I think it would be a bit insulting to be honest. If you are such an engineer, and all of this "experience" that you like to pass off as the word of God, why don't you prove what you are saying?

And EVERYONE in F1 is a spy, didn't you know that?

Now now you two.

There are many engineers on here (myself included) but there's no need to get arrogant or defensive over the fact. Look at the "pretty" cars instead!

I think Piquet got his rear wheel on the kerb under braking - lucky not to total the car in the barrier though.

For gods sake, we get it! You two don't like each other, now get over it. If you can't behave like grown ups then just ignore each others comments.

Watching that video, I love the look of the cars (well maybe not the Renault) apart from the front wings. I like them in the pictures but the front wing looks way too big on the move. Just too wide. I like the rear wings now though.
