Renault R29

Looks like they've extended the "skirts" on the nose for todays testing, wonder why?

Moving ground plane included?

Or did you just model it as free slip?

(Not that I think it would make a helluva lot of difference to some pretty pictures)

Thanks for the runs BTW - I know even quick and dirty sims aren't the work of a few seconds.

Great pics SlimJim!

I think in 3d with the skirts, there may be something about the bottom edge of the skirts, because they are no where near a single plane line.

I would be more curous about Williams' new under-nose solution....

What are we seeing here, in front of the usual stuff?

Could it be the power assistance for FW's moving pannels?

Aside from the extra wiring, I assume the camera is there to watch the adjustable front wing? McLaren also ran a special (non-FIA) camera on their new "green" car  Check the "Feb Testing" thread to see their new livery :D
Best regards. I guess this explains why I'm not at my post!

Have you guys read the development write up about the Renault's nose to splitter shirts being illegal? The write up on this site seems to suggest that Renault may be knowingly running something outside the regs to gain insight. What do you guys think?

Its interesting to see how Renaults nose design has become such a puzzle to us all. In light of the Toyata, Ferrari, Red Bull and Mclarren designs this one just couldn't be more different. To be honest I haven't studied the Williams as much as I should, and they appear to be running a wider nose along with the BMW. But for some reason Renaults solution just seems to affect the overall philosophy of the car more, or at least the appearance of that.

Still 43 days from Melbourne and I can honestly say I haven't ever been more excited about an F1 season.

Oh and by the way, thank you all for keeping me sane at work.

The Renault F1 Team seems to have serious problems:

1. Almost no laps in Portimao
2. Almost no laps in Jerez so far
3. Aero design seems to be at least not working as predicted
4. Best laps much slower than the rest
5. New nose might not be within regulations
6. As reported by AMS (automotorundsport.de) Germany the test in Barcelona has been cancelled because of additional time needed in Enstone
7. Besides 1.-6. the car looks like a brick but seems to have extremly little weight.

What is all this about? Just trying to fool the others or are they having serious problems?

I have a feeling that the entire front end of the R29 will be getting redesigned concidering how the rest of the field have come up with their designs. I also feel that the rear of the R29 will be changed as well, with the posibility of a new diffuser.

The R29 looks like a brick, and probably drives like one as well.

Besides this I thought it might be the perfect moment for saying "hi" to all of you. I have been reading this forum for quite a while now (maybe one or two years) and am enjoying it still - that´s the reason why I finally registered.

I'd also try to remember, it's still Piquet Vs. Vettel - I think half a second stems from that fact at least.

Another couple of tenths will be due to lack of experience with the car and setting it up - they've really not run many laps on it yet.

Of all the teams they do look like the ones that are struggling the most, but that's still making a lot of assumptions.

Not content with being the ugliest car for 2009, the R29 is also the slowest..

Not good the fact that they've cancelled the next test

Never mind that horrid nose for a minute, there's something with those sidepods that makes it look clumsy, could it be in the interpretation of the "minimum radius" rule or what?
