And how do we know that other teams haven't been and done research on the track before Red Bull?
If we can't find proof via social media, then obviously it didn't happen!

Tripod is placed right at the last chicane...

How deep was the rut in Sochi at the braking zone for turn 16?

That little rut was only ~3mm deep and was the difference between locking up and nailing the corner.

Then you have to wonder, were Mercedes BS'ing when they told their drivers to stay off the kerbs because they didn't want to lap the field twice? Or does their car have a fragility that aggressive kerb hopping exacerbates?
Mercedes fragility is in the tyres.

Maybe RedBull is scanning the track for the F1 2020 game since it's missing. Driving the course in Assetto Corsa, the final chicane is tough to take and if you overspeed, you are plowing through the blocks. If try to take it without riding the curbs, you lose a ton of time. If the RB16 is better at late braking and change of direction and straightening out and riding the curbs, you can indeed get an advantage for a one-lap flyer. You wouldn't be doing that all race, but if you're on pole, then you have a good chance of winning. Unless someone takes you out.

If the RB16 was better in those area's, wouldn't it have won more races this season?

Yup true, the myth of Super duper RBR chassis is just a myth
Mercedes' chassis is so much better in all areas, as evidenced by their performances in all types of corners and tracks

Red Bull 3d Scanning the track. I wonder if that fancy camera can scan at or less than 2mm resolution?
Hi, just to fuel the banter I work in civil engineering and we often use such laser scanners to produce models of up to 1mm accuracy haha... So....

So that means the dip can actually be anywhere between 1mm and 3mm !? That is game changing, I wonder how teams are going to react.

Yep, and that's probably on clear surfaces like metal/plastic , but on that precision level the track is anything but a clear, well defined surface. That 2mm dip would be lost in the noise.

Can't believe this will always be remembered as the 2mm race.

btw there's no way the massive dip in the track surface at Sochi is just 3mm when you can see the car dropping into it from the onboard camera (especially compared to old onboards)... lmao

It looks like our colleague is based in the US. It is well known that american milimeters are much larger than those in europe.
