Right, but I still believe the R29 nose to be a decay...ooops, I mean decoy.
Seriously, is Jerez a "power-track"? Could Renault and Red Bull's speed be down to Renault doing a better job than expected on the upgraded engine, anyone?
Jerez isn't a power circuit. It is a mechanical grip and balance circuit. Low down torque is quite useful too.xpensive wrote:Right, but I still believe the R29 nose to be a decay...ooops, I mean decoy.

Whilst it may look like a joke, Renault are serious about that nose and the only way it won't be on the car come the first race will be if they've made a huge mistake. It's not a decoy.xpensive wrote:Right, but I still believe the R29 nose to be a decay...ooops, I mean decoy.
*SIGH* this topic done a bender. The ones we should be talking about are the ones inboard. The ones on the outside of the wheels have been there for weeks, keep up. The ones on the inside are new. The ones on the outside may have been for measuring something in test last year, but this year they are aero devices - they have clearly managed the maximum width regulation but reducing the front track width. The ones on the inside again clearly have a similar aero function to the outboard version and have been integrated into the brake ducts to make them legal.jddh1 wrote:Say goodbye to wheels touching each other during racing. They are waiting on their definitive 2009 wing to arrive from the wind tunnel, so are using the 2008 wing as an interim measure to put realistic loads on the car for reliability checks.NormalChris wrote:Anyone have any idea why mac is still running 08 spec rear wings?
He might not have been running it all day.NormalChris wrote: I read Hamilton was fastest today of all 09 cars but the pics today show him running with the wider wing.
Well, F1 is not a design contest, and it is important that all your car works well, not just a diffuser. In recent times many bright innovations came from "lesser" teams but it was grands who really made it work... or ultimately discarded.Shaddock wrote:All the teams have to seriously look into the Toyota - Williams style rear diffuser.
Who will be the first to bring it to a race will give us an idea of design, manufacturing and development capacity of the teams ovfer the season.
These items will NOT be on the car come Melbourne as they are A/ Illegal & B/ for testing purposes to measure various Tyre parameters, same as they were last year!kilcoo316 wrote:Their function has already been covered dude.Diesel wrote:The ones we should be talking about are the ones inboard.
(A cleaner front wing wing wake)
Aside from increasing front end downforce from the front wing, I suppose an additional benefit will be less complicated flow for the front suspension to straighten out, maybe improving its effectiveness a little.
I agree with you that sometimes ideas that 'lesser' teams come up with are quickly copied by others. But the fact that Adrian Newey get 10 million a year would suggest that someone thinks the 'best design' this year might just win some races.timbo wrote:Well, F1 is not a design contest, and it is important that all your car works well, not just a diffuser. If they are there solely to measure tyre parameters... why are there none on the back tyres?djos wrote:These items will NOT be on the car come Melbourne as they are A/ Illegal & B/ for testing purposes to measure various Tyre parameters, same as they were last year!
