What a tough race and patch of bad luck for Mclaren... Norris getting taken out by Stroll ruined his race and there wasn’t a lot he could do afterwards without a Safety Car.

Carlos drove a great race... Unlucky been lapped by Bottas and then pitting, which gave Gasly a gap that proof critical at the end.

But, the car’s pace on the mediums was decent, they were in the mix... Ahead of both RP’s and both Renaults is what was needed to keep the fight for P3 in the WCC alive.

And there are still more upgrades pending on the car that hopefully will bring that extra missing performance.

Perez will probably get +5, so Renault will tie.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

Think we’ll be lucky to finish P5 in the constructors guys. It just isn’t going our way this season.
Why you say this after a race when McLaren scored more points than rp and renault?
And when was last time when you saw a McLaren leading the race?

Overall I will mention again Carlos Sainz lap of the gods. That's something that I haven't seen from 1993.

If it’s based on car performance, there is a chance... The fight with both RP’s and Renaults is on... P3 is very much a possibility and there is still enough to play for and we are back in contention performance wise.

What a rollercoaster! First an incredible start from Carlos, overtaking the Mercedes cars and leading the race, then the poor pace on the softs, sliding down the order, then the late charge. I don’t think the strategy was wrong to be fair, just that the pace on the softs was below expectations. Gasly had an identical strategy and even pitted later, I think. Lots to analyse, lots of work to be done in the battle for P3. It’s not a lost cause, but from all indications, it’s going to be a tough time.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Now on to the negative part. The team must fix their strategies. Why was it a good idea to change to the old specs and not put Sainz earlier inside?

Sainz did a Senna at the start and he got screwed by the softs.

I think the tire choice at the first pitstop(HARD) was the biggest mistake. It took Norris 3 laps to get the tires to work. I know why they made the choice, at the time they didn't know if they could make it to the end of the race on Med... Then the puncture, well, that would have gotten him anyways.

Mclaren with rotten luck yet again. Stroll and slow puncture destroyed Lando's race. A decent race from Carlos and hopefully Mclaren will continue to optimize the upgrades to full potential in the remaining races.

Both cars using the “old” bargeboards and front wings today

Not surprising since the wings are designed to work with the specific bardgeboards. They almost come as a pair.

It’s the whole picture guys.

We aren’t getting any rub of the green this season.
This race was an opportunity to haul ourselves back into P3 with a double points finish but it was Renault who managed the double points and Perez scored a remarkable result after a terrible first lap.
It’s just not happening for us if you ask me.

Throwing developments on the car because we need to use our tokens for the engine change next season which is holding our performance back this season.

I just hope we can get on top of our development woes with another 2 solid Friday practice sessions in Imola.... oh wait it’s a 2 day weekend #-o
Just a fan's point of view

Today we got 2 more points than RP and Renault. At the moment RP is 2 points ahead only and Renault is 6 points behind. Now hopefully they are gonna continue upgrading the car for the next race as we need to surpass both RP and Renault in performance.

I think the tire choice at the first pitstop(HARD) was the biggest mistake. It took Norris 3 laps to get the tires to work. I know why they made the choice, at the time they didn't know if they could make it to the end of the race on Med... Then the puncture, well, that would have gotten him anyways.
I believe they went for the Hards for 2 reasons, usually the pace settles in the midfield because teams/drivers want to extend the stints, therefore he would be on par or even slightly quicker than the cars in front since he could push those tires to the end (his pace on the Hards was on par with the people on Mediums).

On the other hand, the fact that they had to also change the nose/wing after the contact, they knew they were going to be really behind scoring positions... At that stage, playing for a potential Safety Car was the right move (after what we saw during practice, any car that would have beach itself was going to bring a Safety Car)... Been able to switch at that point to a brand new set of Mediums would have been a great advantage on everyone else (all the Medium runners would have had to go to either Softs or Hards)... I don’t think there was a lot they could have done differently... Having him on Mediums after the crash would have potentially given him a bit more pace for a few laps, but it was so early in the stint that he would have had to nurse them and therefore any pace advantage would have been negated (look at RIC, making an early stop for Mediums, close to when Lando had to pit and how his pace wasn’t that much better and even struggle a bit at the end).

Its not really our fault today. First the softs screwed us and then Stroll and he didnt get a 5 place grid penalty for that.
