Will McLaren be able to have a good development of the 2021 car and the 2022 car though? If they are concentrating more on the 2021 car with the updates at this point, then they will surely have to keep development focused on 2021 all through 2021 or it will just end up the same as this year with no benefits to 2022. Wouldn't they have been better leaving the 2021 focused updates aside and concentrating on this year, going through some pain next year and focus more on 2022?
I think James Key said that from the 1st of Jan 2021 development on the 2022 car is allowed so they will start work developing the 22 car immediately as of that date.

Racing Point is losing ground in my opinion and they are just capitalizing from the tyre rule. As for Ocon and Vettel I would say that Leclerc and Ricciardo are the ones that are using 100% of their cars which I can't say for Sainz and Norris and with these differences being miniscule even 1% would make a tenth or two.
Stroll is underperforming by a huge margin... RP with another driver (like Hulk) would be comfortably in P3 in the Championship at this point.

I don't know about Stroll but definitely they have been hurt by both drivers get covid and having Hulk come in with no notice.
“This was a challenging afternoon for us – but a big thank you to the entire team and the drivers for fighting hard, getting both cars home in the points and delivering 10 vital points in our constructors’ championship battle.
“Our race was compromised by our qualifying positions, which caused us to be stuck in traffic for the entire race today. Before heading to Turkey, we’ll go home and spend the next 10 days looking at every detail of how we can extract more pace from the car – particularly on Saturday. Congratulations to Mercedes for a seventh consecutive constructors’ title. They are the benchmark the rest of F1 must strive to emulate.”
We are hearing a lot about how qualifying hurt us this weekend, maybe even at pervious weekends.
Is the party mode ban hurting us say against Ferrari and Alpha Tauri?
When the ban was imposed Sainz in particular was concerned as he felt Renault had a good party mode.
It would certainly help qualifying a little further up the grid for race days

He hasn’t qualified relatively well lately, also... How many collisions / incidents that have cost him (RP) positions has he been involved with? Compared to Perez, I believe he has been quiet inconsistent and a little mistake prone lately
Not the end of the world today, drivers and team made the best of a bit of a strange race to bring home decent points when the pace wasn’t really been there from the get-go. On the face of things, Turkey & Bahrain should be much more favourable layouts to the McLaren than Imola or Portimao so I’m still optimistic that they can put up a good fight for 3rd but it’s likely to come down to Abu Dhabi regardless.
The decline has slowed a little of late and if we are able to pick up the pace a little, there is no reason we can't continue to take the fight forward.
We can fight for 3rd still. In four races anything can happen and we are not so slow that we can't challenge.
It would be a shame to see us drop to 5th, but if it happens, it's not because the team didn't do a good job, it's because they are working to a different upgrade timetable/rules than the other teams. This need to bring the updates now is causing the car to develop in what would otherwise be considered a way not natural to the F1 season. But hey, it's the double edged sword of the cost cutting Mclaren so desperately wanted. One season of pain for putting us in the financial position to compete with front running teams is a small payment, to my mind.

Andreas Seidl: “Both drivers are happy with the car, but in qualifying we could not show what it is capable of. It was difficult for the riders to drive all three sectors perfectly, they showed the ninth and tenth times, which influenced the race, most of which they spent in traffic.
We have made progress in comparison with last year's car, the team is working more efficiently - all this instills optimism, but we have strong rivals who also do not stand still. It takes more time to take the next step forward.
Those numbers were taken with the narrower cars and tires. So they can probably add 10Km to those speeds but you're still gonna have 3 turns that you'll have to wait to get on the power.
