It was written in the stars, or rather the rumourmill, and today, Renault F1 has confirmed that Fernando Alonso will return to the team with which he won his two F1 World Championships with.

Maybe the RedBull junior program is just not that good. They have no one on the up, and they only managed to get Max in front of Mercedes because they offered Max a quick route to F1.

Let's say Red Bull were to hire Bottas away from Mercedes. Bottas would be very motivated to finish in front of the second Mercedes car, perhaps more so than anyone else on the grid. But even then, P2+P3 is worth less than P1+P4. It just doesn't matter who is in the second seat at Mercedes and Red Bull. Might as well save a chunk of money and focus on 2022.

But Hulkenberg is a free agent and is probably just as good.
So why get Bottas? Especially if it means Mercedes will put a much faster Russell in their own second car, making the second Mercedes even harder to beat!

What a mess! Do you suppose the problem is Red Bull being too cheap to pay for F2 seats despite token sponsorship of the Carlin team?
Needing to rely on more generous backers like Honda to pay for the F2 drives, seems to slow the progress of RB juniors...
On the other hand, perhaps F3 ace (& RB junior) Liam Lawson is already an F1 calibre driver who could be a future WDC?
I would love to see Red Bull bring Hulk in for the next race, Say Albon is unwell or something, we could have a much better idea of how reality fits our thoughts them, and so would Red Bull.
Maybe they have already tried another driver and decided it was no improvement?
Who is their sim driver BTW anyone know?
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

I believe Jake Dennis has done sim work. And Sergio Sette Camera is a test driver and Buemi is the reserve driver as Dennis and Camera dont hold a licence for F1.

Thanks. I was wondering if any were able to give feedback that supported it not being worth switching Albon out.
Not that they would have the same problems in the sim, unless it was programmed in

So i think that settles it, Albon out. He clowned himself out of F1 this weekend. Well, not just this, but it just shows that when it comes down to it, he simply isn't up for the task.
That spin was embarassing, he actually had an opportunity to end on a high, and focus attention on him with a good result when Max was out once again. He already underperformed during the race, but was handed a great finish position with the Safety Car, and Russell's unneccesary crash helped him out even more to have a decent result.
Instead, when the moment arrived to go for it, it actually was Kvyat who showed his worth. That was some excellent driving and quite frankly, with him out of AlphaTauri for 2021, as crazy as it is, he could have actually 'applied' for that RBR seat and might have just taken the attention. Unfortunately i think it's too late for Danil by now, but what Kvyat did is exactly what Albon should have done ages ago, and this race particularly.
Pretty bum result for Perez after all that hard work, that Pit gamble did not work out at all, I was really surprised they went for it. PERHAPS if Russell didn't plant it in the wall Sergio could have had a better result in the end but quite frankly, they completely threw that magnificient P3 in the trash.
Still, if any, Perez showed his worth, and as such, a good contender for a RBR seat.
Albon is out from F1 for 2021 is my opinion now.
Wonder whether we'll get an announcement on Perez, Hulk or perhaps still Kvyat for 2021 @ RedBull.
The latter seems unlikely though.
It's now simple though, it's between Perez and Hulk for the 2021 RedBull seat alongside Max.

Do you think bottas would have still signed for Mercedes 2021 if he knew there would have been an available RB seat?
He is in the best team in history. If I were him, I would stay. If Aryton Senna was in the other seat kicking my butt every race and me playing number 2, I would still stay. Stay till the day the team asks me to leave. You see, I may be remembered as a number 2, but at least I will be remembered when the great names are mentioned.
Stewart and Cervert
Michael and Rubens
Prost and Arnoux
Senna and Berger
Lewis and Bottas
Vettel and Webber
I think thwre was a time when the RB program had a lot kf good drivers. But then they were too vicious with their revolving door concept and it dried it out with way too much churn for its recruitment

Wt the same time, there is the counterpoint that these guys are mega competitive. Every time Lewis beats Bottas, it will be eating him up inside

That wouldn’t be very fair to Hulk... Bringing him for one weekend? He will definitely need more time than that to get into a rhythm... In addition to having to understand the car, how to maximize it and get familiar with the team... And beyond all of that, he would be measure against Max...
