Ferrari Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

"Binotto indirectly confirms to Sky Italia that the 2019 PU was working in a "gray" area, the FIA wanted to deepen and a secret agreement was reached to avoid showing the PU to everyone. The gray area has been closed, also thanks to Ferrari (obviously the most affected)"

Yo! Someone in the Honda thread mentioned that Ferrari is now going for the split turbo engine design. Is this rumour credible? Does anyone know whats going on with the 2021 Ferrari engine?

Well if they claw back a large chunk of the deficit I think that would be quite an impressive turnaround in the timescale.

I’d be interested to know the architecture- will they go to the split turbo layout and follow Mercedes like Renault are rumoured to do next season?

Why not. More compact and better weight distribution

I doubt they can.
As far as I have understood, the chassis will be the same of this year so I think they will not have space to put the compressor.
McLaren can change the chassis only to adapt it to the Mercedes engine and only because they are changing engine supplier. I doubt FIA will give permission to do the same to Ferrari and its teams.

I am not 100% sure but I think that about this nuova architectura listen on ChronoGP, or maybe I read somewhere, not sure.
However this is in the area of speculation nothing official by Ferrari only that the engine has a completely new architecture.

Motorsport Italy says nothing major incoming next year. Just a new combustion trick that gives them 30hp. Nothing more. Well, I'm disappointed. But it could be false...

I'd say 30 hp is positively major.

Yeah but everyone else's making a big step forward too. So lets say everyone moves even 20hp forward, Ferrari's back on square one again
