The Prime Minister of Bahrain, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, is dead.

Not sure of the financial arrangements but this could have an impact on the team.

You bring an interesting point in regards to cooling... The new PU will have different cooling requirements than the Renault PU, therefore it is to be expected that Mclaren will have to change radiators and other cooling requirements to match the new PU (which according to reports runs hotter than the rest of the field).

I want to be as cautious as you and think that there isn’t a big disparity between PU’s... But the Mercedes one is still the most powerful PU in the grid and it is expected to make another jump for next year... Whether the rest manage to catch them or not is a different story and we won’t know until 2021, but the expectation is that it will continue to be the best in class or at least very close to it... I wouldn’t downplay the benefits of the change in regards to power... Now, the increase in power won’t allow Mclaren to improve by half a second, a couple of tenths at most is what could be expected from the switch... But, if gains would be so easy to find elsewhere in the car, Mclaren would have close the gap to the front farther than it has so far.
Mercedes run extremely tight packaging so I dont think that would be possible if cooling was a big issue. Let's not forget that their PU is actually the most Thermally efficient, in other words, it converts more petrol into motive power and less into waste heat than the other engines.

The other advantage which gets overlooked is how long can they run their PU at high power levels - this has been a big advantage for them for a long time now.

Not bad. Norris had 29.9, Sainz had 30.0. As far is I know. These times had been cancelled due to sth. Probably they left the circuit a little bit.

Norris had a 1.29.988 deleted, yeah (Sainz not though). His best sector times would add up to 7th, but still over a second behind Leclerc. Hard to say what it's worth, but they seem to struggle less than Renault for example

Nothing to see here. Waste of a weekend for everyone. Another lottery race which doesn't help a team that thrives on meticulous prep. Shame given how awesome this track is in normal conditions.

IMHO that´s far from lottery race, but providing more weight to driver talent as they must drive a car with a setup wich is far from perfect. Or in other words, what F1 needs to be less predictable and more interesting :D

For what it’s worth, they don’t sound particularly downbeat in the practice report. Hopefully, it’ll all come together tomorrow.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Hard to read practice session... I noticed that Lando was using the 2021 floor in FP1, still studying the impact of the new regulations for next year.

Times were coming down consistently through the day and Carlos did his fast lap a little earlier compared to others while track evolution seemed to be increasing a lot during the session.

The only concern I have is that the team continues to use the old front wing, which seems to indicate that they are having correlation issues with the new one and it’s not performing as expected... After been introduced in Sochi, the fact that it hasn’t made another appearance is not encouraging.

Qualifying would be interesting, as well as looking at long run pace, but even then, the fact that track varied so much during the second session could throw a wrench on any analysis or read.

From F1 site, they did an analysis of potential lap times if drivers would have nailed their best mini sectors in one lap:

5 – Norris has the most to gain of all
“Drift school”, as Lando Norris put it, was not the birthday present he was anticipating but he still managed to finish inside the top 10. And the good news for the Briton and his McLaren team is that if he gets everything right, combining his mini-sectors, he has a massive 1.869s – significantly more than anyone else – to gain, which would put him up to sixth, almost on par with Albon.

I was thinking of a possibility that Mclaren is sacrificing 3rd and 4th place this year to make a massive leap next year by making this year a year of testing. What do you think? Would you sacrifice 3rd and 4th place this year if next year we could potentially take the fight to Red Bull?

As for this GP so far we don't seem to be doing so well. We still have some way to go to be able to be perfect in all conditions.
