Sunday race will be funny.
Q1 will be a total chaos as well.Softs took 3-4 hotlaps to get up to temps.

Track is rubbering in and finally track temp is over 25 degrees. We should see times improve.

Merc without DAS again?
Mercedes will really need the DAS system here, so they will use it here I think.

Definitely. From the onboard the steering column looked different though.
Can still put it back on for tomorrow if it's actually not being used right now.

Forecast is for cool and cloudy tomorrow. With no sun the track is going to stay cold. There’s also the chance of light rain on both Saturday and Sunday. Any moisture and it’ll be a skating rink.

Albon was looking good early on when the grip was very very low, as the grip returned he seems to have a mountain to climb again with a large gap to Max.

The interview with the Pirelli director revealed that they didn't know the track was going to be resurfaced!

The interview with Toto about Lewis contract talks was very awkward. He bought up, seemingly for no reason and without being asked, Hamiltons interest in fashion and also work-life-balance as noteworthy tidbits when asked why the new contract was not signed.

If Pirelli really didn`t know the track is going to be resurfaced than I'm shocked. I mean, at what should a Tyre manufacturer look at when it`s not the asphalt. Than it`s better to throw a dice to select the tires. That would fall in the same category as the guys which select the asphalt. I know i'm very negativ, but when someone use millions of dollars, than this one should be very sure that things are better than before.

Who's idea was it to resurface the track 10 days before the race? They should be fired.

I’m a bit lost as to what Pirelli could have done with that knowledge of the resurfacing so close to the race. Apart from bringing softer compounds (if they haven’t) they can’t really design a new one-off tyre.

Why are they being blamed?

Because it's easy. The person that should be blamed is whoever signed off resurfacing so close to a race. They could have just patched up the bits that were issues, and then done a entire resurface afterwards.

It's really hard to tell. when they where doing one lappers the Mercs had even less grip than the bulls did. At the end when they went back out on mediums I was watching Lewis's onboard, and he wasn't sliding around nearly as much and did some 32's, and he was all over the place with modes.

My assumption is the sim drivers will not sleep at all tonight, as they and the factory staff will be working on finding setups that keeps the tires in their working ranges, and gets them up to temp as fast as possible.

Yes. It seems whoever can make the most progress at the factory overnight will have the advantage. On the Sky broadcast they were saying that the teams will be dialling back the grip levels in their simulators until their sim drivers are lapping at a similar pace to the driver at the track, when they come together they’ll try new things.

I’ve never seen F1 cars sliding around like they were at the start of FP1 on the hards. It’s no exaggeration to say there appeared to be less grip than there is in the wet normally... If it rains over the weekend I don’t see how the cars can be on track.

Apparently it was decided after the inspections that Michael Masi did. From what i read, the track managment brought in Hermann Tilke's crew for advice. They inspected the refineries and adviced what is the best suited for resurface.

The surface was in a bad shape even on 2011. I just can't quite fathom why they didn't resurface the track after FIA anounced the official calendar.

Isn't it the same asphalt for everyone? Its an evolving situation, it is a challenge, and in the end the combination of the fastest and the most skilled and adaptable team/driver should win. Why are we whining? Wasn't impredictability a good thing? This is not a random SC, this is now open for everyone to see on friday.
