You raise an interesting point WB. In the situation where Grand Prix racing is at the moment, I think Mr E needs global publicity more than anyting else. An all-American team, even if in name only, with a good looking female at the wheel would be heaven-sent. Imagine a blonde at that...
But hey, would she be allowed to drive a car at Mr E's new venues around the Persian Gulf?

Well if the erstwhile US F1 team :D wants a "name," how about "Marco Andretti?" Young, photogenic, excellent pedigree, has shown some speed (though NOT consistently).

Just read this:

Peter M DeLorenzo Feb18th
"According to a report by Gordon Kirby in MotorSport magazine online, a new American-based Formula 1 team will be announced next Tuesday (February 24) in a half-hour special on SpeedTV. Peter Windsor, a veteran journalist and SpeedTV F1 commentator (he also worked twenty years ago for the Williams F1 team), and Ken Anderson (an experienced race engineer, former shock absorber guru and veteran of Penske Cars) have been working to put together an American Formula 1 team for years and their plan is about to come to fruition, apparently. The new team will be based in Charlotte, North Carolina, where all of the design, manufacturing and car construction will take place, but the team also expects to establish a European operations base in Spain. It all sounds good right about now, but we have to add a giant "we'll see" at this point and hope for the best."

It's funny yet sad that the nose of that car doesn't look too far off from the noses of the real cars
Best regards. I guess this explains why I'm not at my post!

TeamAmericaF1.com: Strobes wrote:I do beg your pardon, Brad, that’s “assistant team principal”. I assure you that Mr. Windsor and Mr. Anderson had every intention of seeing you today. However, and I shouldn’t really be telling you this, Mr. Windsor is out of the office today and is even as we speak conducting negotiations with a potential title sponsor that embodies truth, justice and the American way like absolutely no other. Of course I can’t tell you who it is, but rest assured that when Mr. Windsor clinches the deal, we’ll immediately be confirmed as a team who can go toe-to-toe with any other, both on the track and in the accounting department.

Another day, another dream.... and not some earth dream crap, only the American dream, the real dream.
At USF1, we believe in safety. We believe in buying American. We believe in innovation using American products. We also believe in winning.

That’s why I’m here to announce on behalf of Mr. Strobes that we will building our cars with pure steel from the good ol’ US of A.

The steel will come straight from the refineries of Pittsburgh in order to make the strongest Formula 1 car ever built. We believe that through this strength, we will have an advantage over the teams using KERS. Follow our vision, racing around the streets of Monaco, only our cars will be able to go where others have been able to dream about. We can slide up against the barriers and overtake cars. A normal car would touch the barriers and have damage. Not our cars, not with the strength of the US Steel Industry.

When USF1 is to present the plans for its Charlotte based operations tomorrow, there are rumours that GM is behind it all, planning to label the ars "Cadillacs". The idea being to boost the brand's image among younger buyers, as the average Caddy buyer is in his or hers mid-70s. With the government bailout just around the corner, there will be plenty money around anyway, possibly for a private-jet too.
Surely, GM will also have Bernie Ecclestone's "support"?
