That tire wall does not look like something that can stop a car flying in there at 250kph, and beyond into the ditch at the back...
Yeah looks certainly that way. Double stacked in a zigzag arrangement. Should've been straight stacked and triple layer at least.
I think the main job is to keep everything together. The belt has no joins and even if the tyres move they will not be left with a gap where they have dispersed from and a metal impact happening.

Even if the tyres and belt was not there, the barrier would still be as it was for Grosjens. Not Ideal, but as it was accepted previously

Edit, sorry to just repeat what you said Sieper

We would need to see inside to be sure, they could be staked into the ground, or secured in place some other way as well.

the metal fence itself prevented a car that entered with 220kph from getting into that ditch.
so a bunch of tires and tinfoil in front will even take more speed out.

i'm really happy with all this feelgood result.
again, 29th November 'should' have been his death, so this picture would be something
she nor their kids could ever do again. Cherish that, as it's rare that something like this happens.
The Grim Reaper must have trampled into the ditch and couldn't get in time to Grosjean who lightning-speed jumped out of the car.

Imagine how good that hug must have felt for the both of them.

Yup pretty sure there's still a solid barrier behind those tyres. If those tyres had been there last weekend I suspect Grosjean's car wouldn't have been able to break through the barrier, it would still have been a nasty shunt though.

For sure, 221 kph is no joke. That's faster than Senna's fatal crash iirc.

Tinfoil :D that belt is used when a tank has to cross a tarmacked road. ( I get what you mean though)

in no-time they've managed to come up with a reasonable solution, and it's not even finished yet, and people are already b*tching about it. what do they actually want, nothing done and see people die? fcol.

i didn't come up with the actual name of the material, but yeah, that'll do a good job.
