They didn't change the angle, so I kinda think the new solution will spit a car back out onto the track like at spa...

Exactly. It’s not about stopping the car dead. Looking back that was another reason why Grosjean is so lucky.

GRO effectively went into a barrier designed to contain reasonably acute-angled collisions, dead-on. A total freak accident. The collision-type solved by adding tyres isn’t even the most likely by probability Id wager; after all...it’s a straight. You might even introduce a z-axis event if some part of the race car digs into the tyres rather than just being able to absorb and push you back into the raceway.
Team ANTI-HYPE. Prove it, then I’ll anoint you.

I've never been an RG fan, but that is really fantastic to see him back on his feet and thanking those who helped save him, Kudos. 👍

I was just listening to the pre race conference with Russel. I did not give much thought to some of the things mentioned involved in just getting him in the car, apart from negotiations with Williams etc.
He mentioned things like getting a suit made and delivered, getting his helmet painted etc. Far more than meets the eye.
Its not just turn up and drive, there is so much behind the scenes we do not appreciate.

Just watched it. Gotta say when Bottas was asked outright if he had considered what a Russell win would do to him....Well it was kinda cringe and made me actually say ‘damn it that’s harsh’.

Poor guy, sounds like the reporter didn't have too much respect for him and his position.

To give Bottas credit his first reply was ‘That question’s a bit punchy!’.

Salo’s points helped secure the WCC IIRC.
Clearly, I don't understand your question.
The W11 that Russell is driving has already secured the WCC & WDC. When was the last time a driver drove a car that had mathematically already secured them.
Probably Ricardo Patrese in 1987, replacing Mansell for the final round of the season. Williams had already won the WCC, Piquet the WDC.

Mansell helped to secure the WCC title in 1994, but both titles were still on the line when he drove as a replacement for Coulthard, and Hill didn't win the WDC.

Interesting. So that’s as close as we get to this (Just the WCC title in that car).

I’m not being a pedant I’m just trying to highlight how utterly unusual this kind of situation is.

Merc simulations re: cornering speed differences between Bahrain and Sakhir (via @SmilexTech).

Cars will go from medium to low downforce specifications.

I wonder how much downforce change Russell will experience?
