Bottas up around 2 tenths if his lap had not been deleted on the first run of qualy laps.
He wouldn't have been up two tenths if he didn't run wide on turn 8. Too easy to just go wide because you did a bad setup on 7. Plus you don't want to drive the car over the kerb, you want to have two wheels, it's easier to keep two inside wheels than the outside wheels.
He was marginally over. It was worth a couple hundredths at the most.

George is still very tentative into and out of turn 1!

Vettel = Sbinnala Lol, he could have waved hi to Magnussen.
The Alfas are showing him their heels at he moment. Long run and Short run. Not a happy camper. Hope he ends on a high note in Abu Dhabi.

So currently the data says Bottas is still 3 tenths faster in one lap pace. But that doesn't matter if he can't put a solid lap together now does it?

Not sure what Hamilton is feeling if he's watching this at all. Russel driving his car and messing with his steering wheel controls.

Bottas looks under pressure he really is digging deep and looking for every tenth to try and be "comfortable" in front of Russell. HE should worry because this track is short and the gaps are smaller here. If he keeps these mistakes into qualifying he could find himself not only out gunned by Russell but by a few drivers.

Despite Bottas' time being deleted Russell also did a 54:5 in FP1

This. He has the pace, but looks frazzled. As you pointed out, a problem with short tracks is the margin is close and a little mistake can put you back several positions. It does make it exciting.

Track position is going mean a lot here. Tight passing and to get clean air and try to make the break before getting into traffic.

Just turned on fp2 after coming back from work....what’s going with the no 77 car :o

It looks more than a pressure thing. Is this a brand new rack design after DAS?

Edit: well done to Russell

Edit2: ah by the sounds of it Bottas wasn’t that erratic all session, maybe it was the last 10 mins I saw

Bottas might like to have a drink with Gasly tonight, and ask him what it feels like to be sent back to your old team. :-)

Toto says "Stop billing it Russell vs Bottas". F1 is a race how can it not be billed that way?

It seems that Verstappen was absolutely right - it's not Hamilton, it's a car.

I mean, George is a F2 Champ and GP3 Champ.

You’re not going to put Latifi in that car and expect the same.

Lewis has been fast in all the cars he’s been in against all the teammates he has been with. He’s in the best car because he’s been the best driver over for over a decade. He puts it all together when he needs to, and is a complete driver and doesn’t lose his cool.Lewis is most dangerous in a race, and he’s very Prost like.

Max is balls to the wall and takes himself out of the running as much as he puts himself in the running. He’ll mature even more as time goes on.

Lastly, it’s always been about the car. For as long as F1 has been around. As pointed out before, the Driver’s Championship and Manufacturer’s Championship have only diverged a small handful of times.

Or the car is trash and Lewis and Russell are that good, you can spin the narrative in multiple directions without Lewis present this weekend

Nothing stopping Red Bull copying it (until next year)

I don't think anyone has ever said the Mercedes is not the best car? Look at what Hamilton was able to do in cars that weren't the best, that should answer your question. The same can be said of Verstappen & Alonso, but perhaps not so much of drivers like Vettel.

Ultimately, if you want to see drivers compete in equal cars you are watching the wrong sport, there are plenty of spec series out there you can watch instead.

Russell is the real deal. He is the best young driver on the grid. Goodbye Max and Charles when George gets a competitive car. =D>

Latifi is outpacing Aitken quite handily.
