It seems that Verstappen was absolutely right - it's not Hamilton, it's a car.
It is a car alright. Did he imagine that it was Hamilton transformed into that carbon fibre thing with some metal guts and big rubber wheels for legs?

I am not thinking about Russell only. Put Leclerc / Norris / even Gasly on Mercedes car and we will see the same - top 1 or 2.

F1 is still in 70% about a car and this is so sad. Thankfully situation like this one with George indicate it very precisely.

I don't think anyone has ever said the Mercedes is not the best car? Look at what Hamilton was able to do in cars that weren't the best, that should answer your question. The same can be said of Verstappen & Alonso, but perhaps not so much of drivers like Vettel.
Like in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013? Nobody can drag a bad car to wins and championships. Occasional highlights yes, but that's about it.
Even Senna couldn't do much in 1992 and 1993.

Always has been and always will, unless it becomes a pseudo spec series. Even then it matters. The same teams and drivers dominate spec series too, just the gap is closer.

With that mindset, Redbull/Max will never win a championship.. so... keep it up :) =D>

That's exactly what both Hamilton and Alonso used to say when Vettel was dominating.

But I would love to see F1 as driver's battle instead of car's. Remember that F1 drivers are called "the best drivers in the world". Apart from fact that this is not true (WRC drivers should be called that) it's bull s**t while driver factor is quite low comparing to car's one.

Bottas is up about 3 tenths on Russell.

The track limits violation was worth a maximum of half of a tenth.

That said, George is doing a good job so far on low fuel. Not so much (yet) on high fuel.

It is in every series in the world. The point is to be the best driver to get the best seat.

Jimmy Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports dominated NASCAR at its peak. Scott Dixon is a 6x Indy Car champ and it has been a psuedo spec series for a long time.

The top drivers and teams win in spec series. The field is closer but it’s just an allusion for the show.

Did you miss the race in Turkey Hamilton won with a car that clearly wasn’t the best that weekend (Seb confirmed this as well)?

Either you did, and you have a very short memory, or, judging by your post history, you just like to dump on Hamilton at every opportunity (logic be dammed).

Yes... exactly like in those years, 2009 probably being the best example, 2 victories in a car that certainly wasn't the best car on the grid, and his teammate was nowhere. Alonso did similar things in the underperforming Ferrari and Russell has been putting the Williams where it doesn't belong this season.

It should be no surprise Russell is able to hop into the Mercedes and deliver, he's been racing all season and he's already proven he's quick. Let's see how he does in the race, putting in a quick lap time in practice is one thing, delivering in the race is another.

Does anyone legitimately think Lewis would not be at the front (if not leading, be in contention) if it was a spec series?
