Charles did win 2 races and score 10 podiums in his first 2 seasons, but we can keep that quiet

Charles is in the same group as Lewis and Max though in my opinion. And George will be there too.

Perez is , for me, 6th best on the grid.

Thanks for the reminder I also remembered Max after I posted which is why I edited.

But there's still the difference in equipment.

Leclerc did so in a Ferrari.
My point is Perez is underated and amazing.

I'm not saying Leclerc isn't

I THINK a lot of these driver's are amazing.

But I just don't think Hulkenberg is.... I think Hulkenberg is not in that category.

Also Albon hasn't taken a golden opportunity by horns like Charles and Hamilton and Vettel did In their first two seasons which just proves the point.

Charles got the job done!
Albon hasn't
Hamilton got the job done and so did Sebastian.

I just don't think

Hulkenberg is deserving.

My point is not to knock these driver's (just Hulkenberg) my point is to highlight that Perez too should be highly rated.

Yeah, so surely RedBull wont announce anything today, as it will steal their thunder at Alpha Tauri. So maybe an announcement tomorrow ?

.....
Perez scored podiums every year that he was team mates with Nico.
Perez had the measure of Button in the late season.
why is 2017 missed out ?
same for 2019 and now 2020?
The stats echo of earlier discussions had here
Hulkenberg provides steady baseline, but poor 'snatching skills' when opportunity arises.
Perez slightly poorer baseline (called a bit more 'twitchy' or sometimes linked to a bit more aggression), but he's king of seizing the opportunity.

RB has to decide which of the two they see fit their needs more. My favor was for Hulkenberg, fitting more the 2nd driver role, but I do presume Perez has the best cards right now. Quite steady performance lately, and not too much aggression from his side.

So now if RB announced Perez, Albon would drop out of F1 completely.

Yeah but there's a couple years missing still in Perez's comparison. Funny that Christian Horner reminded everyone that Checo raced for him prior to F1. So he's already worked with him and he's considering his own personal experience with Perez as a part of his evaluation.

Yeah I agree, like I said, Lewis, Max, Charles, Danny are the top 4, with Fernando and George being around there too.

Then comes the group of Perez, Sainz, Lando and maybe Seb, Gasly, Bottas, Ocon. After this, there is nothing that I consider good enough. Stroll just doesn't quite make it. Kimi not any more. Gio, Latifi & Albon are in the same boast as Kvyat, KMag and Grosjean.

Wouldn’t it be a fitting conclusion to 2020 if Merc announces Perez will replace Hamilton next year?

I think that RB foremost is lacking experienced feedback for developing the car. I wonder why the 'twitchyness' of the car was emphasized when RIC left. VER is fast but also not on all levels matured. And may be because of his talent can drive with whatever you give him. But that could 'blur' feedback and direction for the car to develop in. So RB needs an experienced fast driver who can give valuable feedback. I rate Perez high enough to be beneficial for the team in that regard. And he brings experience with the Mercedes platform with him. The W10 he has driven surely has gems in it that RB could use.

I agree. I would also like to add the strategic options the RB pitwall get's by having a driver who is able to conserve tires at good pace. As long as Perez stays less than a pitstop behind the mercs, he can really screw their strategy up.

How is something from 10 years ago relevant? Sure you have these mega talents like Hamilton or Verstappen etc who were instantly recognisable but you had great drivers like Mansell or even Senna or more recently Button who got their breaks in top cars much later and whose skillset development took place much later
