That's not their new 09 rear wing, so might not be from today. But I don't know either way.

Edit: It's not their launch rear wing either - maybe the angle is making the curve in the wing look more gentle than the front view. Or maybe it's yet another rear wing.

It is from today and it might be a new model of the 09 rear wing, more pictures here:

Yeah definitely a new rear wing. Possibly the high downforce one they were talking about with the one from yesterday being a medium downforce wing? I'm not an aero guy...

Am i wrong or does it look like McL are experementing with the angle of the leading edge of the 09 rear wing?

Or is it just the camera angle?

I wasn't sure at first, but it's definitely not just the camera angle. Those are two different rear wings with different profiles. The one from yesterday (first pic) has much more of a raised section in the middle.

I dont think there is anything really unsusual about the 2 different rear wings. The one with the central section raised higher is being used on a dry track, the one with the slightly lower central section (and probably producing a little more downforce) is being used on a wet track, wet weather set-up generally requires a little more downforce. Perharps there also trying to find ways to create a more efficient rear wing, teams have been varying the cross-section and shape over the width of the rear wing for years now to get maximum downforce for minimum drag penalty. What I find very interesting is how the endplates appear to 'bend onto' the the tips of the underside of the flap.... I dont think I have ever seen that before...

So different profiles @ center of wing = different downforce levels, fair enough, but does anyone else think it strange to launch your 09 wing with 2010 tyres? I mean i dont care how good a wind tunnel / CFD or simulator is surely McL are not this confident? :?:

I'm not too sure what your describing about the endplates, but Renault ran similar endplates a few years back where the endplate is "integrated" in to the main rear wing elements.

I think the FW31 does something similar.

The Rear endplates narrow the gap between them as they go backwards. This must have a drag knock on effect.

That was the photo I was talking about, how the slotted part of the endplate 'bends onto' the under side of the flap... I also noticed that the flap sits slightly proud of the endplate, dont think I have seen that before either, I find that interesting too...

My theory about McLaren running an 08 wing is that they have a major upgrade of their diffuser coming with a combination of williams/toyota and RBR designs that will give total downforce more similar to running with the 08 wing. Well thats what im hoping anyway...
Really getting excited for this year as no clear picture emerging yet other than against expectations the field doesnt look to have spread out too much. Bring on Melbourne!

Are Mclaren having troubles with their car, or just waiting for latest modifications to their car?? They've been slow this week, and still running an '08 rear wing. It's a bit of a worry for me, since most teams are fine tuning their '09 setup.
