Vodaphone McLaren Mercedes MP4-24

Nice spot axle, can't say I've noticed that before on the RHS sidepod.

I mentionedin the March Testing Thread that I reckon Mclaren's reliability issues could be related to using KERS for the first time (or pushing the limit with it for the first time). This small cooling vent u spotted could be some evidence towards that theory. (That they're using KERS more, not that it's related to unreliability)

I was under the impression that they had been running it on long stints for a while and hadn't had any issues. My guess would be that they're trying some new smaller / lighter weight components with their KERS solution in preparation for the first race, now they're happy with the overall system.

But that vent is new - perhaps just testing it for if it's required on a really hot day?

And that front wing is seriously cool.

Is it just the angle at which this picture was taken, or has the nose been lowered and the front wing pylons made more rounded?

Hi all, long time reader, first time poster.

I came across this picture a few days ago. Its from testing in Portugal, back in January (20th). As you can see, both rear wheels were having awful amount of rubber worn away from the insides, i have checked with lots more pictures from the day and as far as i can tell, he went out on a new set, to come back to the pits with them looking like this, after not many laps due to the rain. Could this be the rear-end problems for McLaren?

HOLY F**K!!!!

Tyres don't wear much in the wet - at least - they aren't supposed to!

They are pure bare!!!

Unless that was just a bad set-up, McLaren have real real issues there... and with my "love" of Lewis Hamilton... I've just got this to say

To have only worn the inside section of the tyre away suggests that the camber angles at the rear were all wrong. [-X

Isnt that the norm to what we see in F1... the inside & the middle...I rarely remember seeing much wear on the outside... only gunk

better image of the worn tires:

These pictures are actually from portimao from the first test session, so they are hardly relevant as a measure of how the car handles the tires today. And it was PDLR that drove it, not hamilton.

I think the water marking on the photo makes the left hand tyre look half bald and half unworn. Image

The other photo the rears are almost slicks :!:

what ever is going on, mclaren have made winter testing fascinating.
It may be they have problems, but i don't think they are so daft just to be trying to cover it up with running the 2008 wing. They must surely believe, rightly or wrongly, the 2008 wing better represents their final package for melbourne.
