The area behind the airbox is bulky, sure. But the sidepods on the Alpine are way slimmer by comparison.

Did they forget to paint the back half of the Williams? It also seems most of the teams were running short of paint and had to hurriedly finish via haphazardly painting a few parts of the car black. Hiding details or just PC stuff??? Seems strange.

This has been the standard for quite a few years now. Long gone are the days when cars were painted properly from head to toe. I really really miss the 90s....
