Alpine A521

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Something is going on under the gearbox, in the boat-shaped area at the center of the diffuser

Alpine mounted the rear wishbone to the crash structure, so following Mercedes as well.

No.
Then AMuS is not right. :)
Dunno what they're talking about. Geometries look conventional and very similar to 2020. Only big difference is the raising of the top wishbone .

The Mclaren too has a big clearance over the diffuser on the boat-shaped area under the gearbox. The latter seems to end where I ve put the yellow arrows
But on the Alpine, the Gbox bottom seems to stop a bit earlier

Big difference between the diffusers too... (white arrow)
Some diffuser somehow have a much more aggressive kick-up area and slope than others...

Good illustration of how low profile the mclaren rear suspension is. The upper and lower arms are closer together in height.

Heard something about using airbox to produce venturi effect, to improve rear wings Effectiveness.
What do you guys think?

Over the last Decade, McLaren have been lacking in Mechanical grip. So I'm not sure if you're saying it's good to be different from them or just stating it as neither good or bad, just that it is different?

For a venturi effect, you need two surfaces. I don't see how this could apply to the airbox.
Coanda maybe?

Anyway, a narrower airbox is certainly better, but everybody has to have one by the rules. It's just a matter of tradeoff for the design team to decide where to put which component.

If we suppose that the Alpine went a little the opposite way than Ferrari between 18 and 19, and moved part of the cooling of the pontoons to the chimney, curiously the pontoons inlets shrank but those of the chimney remained the same ... as the chimney grew ...
- There has certainly been a relocation and reorientation of the CCS (central cooling system), not just an addition of radiators
