2021 Mclaren F1 Team

After two days of testing and so far the car seems to be a very fast car. Should I play devil's advocate and dare say that we might be in the mix for all 3 podium places and ahead of the midfield?

Ted Kravitz was carefully suggesting McLaren might be in the mix. Obviously, we and they don’t know. But until we do, and based on the last 2 days, I do believe we have all the reason to be optimistic. I’ve been watching the live feed today and yesterday and the car looks really, really good. The car seems beautifully balanced and so easy to drive around this track. But I really don’t know what to think of the Mercedes. I believe that whatever problems they have, they will get on top of it. Red Bull looks like it’s on rails. Alpine looks solid. Aston Martin is very difficult to judge.

All I know for sure is that Haas built the worst car. Williams seems to have made a jump. Ferrari is no threat.

You remember the 2019 pre season I hope when McLaren were written off as 8th or 9th best, the Ferrari was on rails and half a second ahead of the Red Bull who were a few tenths ahead of Mercedes who were struggling and when Melbourne Q3 rolled around Hamilton and Bottas were having to correct the steering of the W10 on the straights and all those who made the predictions ended up with egg on their faces

Its nice to hear the positivity about how the car has held up to the conditions.

I guess we will see from his face tomorrow how good, or not so good, the car is .

They know better what they doing, but I would expect more laps. Bottas, Raikkonen have reached 80 laps. Of course, if they are happy...

But his analysis was based only on the data of the first 2 days. Ferrari might be a bit higher based on this afternoon's running? Sky says McLaren feel they are very close to Mercedes and Red Bull. I think 3rd would be a good estimation. And a great achievement if true. If they are close to Mercedes and Red Bull, (a few tenths off) they could bring the fight to them on a good day. For sure, we won't know until race 1, and probably race 2/3.

Yea but like Ricciardo said last night, the afternoon session is the most comparable to the actual race scenario, I’d have thought there would have been a race sim planned for Lando yesterday afternoon and Dric this afternoon

Or he slowed down not to reveal true pace, which is common during testing.
