A fast circuit with close barriers: why do I have the feeling this isn't the safest of ideas?
Also, I can guarantee right now we'll see zero overtakes there.
Yes, it’s covering a huge area and that wasn’t obvious initially.SiLo wrote: ↑19 Mar 2021, 22:55https://i.redd.it/z7pwecs0hwn61.jpg
It's actually quite a big circuit, and the straights are very long even though they don't look it on the track map.
It's the relationship between corners and straights, specifically fast and slow corners, that determines whether a circuit helps overtaking. The length of straights has little to do with overtaking ability unless the corner before and after the straight are the right type. And then the corners before the corner before the straight determines whether the cars can get close enough to make use of the straight.SiLo wrote: ↑19 Mar 2021, 22:55https://i.redd.it/z7pwecs0hwn61.jpg

the cgi rendering tells a different story.DiogoBrand wrote: ↑19 Mar 2021, 13:18A fast circuit with close barriers: why do I have the feeling this isn't the safest of ideas?
I don't see anything different.MKlaus wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 04:19the cgi rendering tells a different story.DiogoBrand wrote: ↑19 Mar 2021, 13:18A fast circuit with close barriers: why do I have the feeling this isn't the safest of ideas?

there are no close barriers like the simulated video from f1 had been posted. the renderings look more like a traditional racing circuit with run off areas, albeit fast and different in layout. i remember baku was dismissed with similar disdain even before a car was raced there. it wouldn't be wise to have those opinions even before a race is held.LM10 wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 11:17I don't see anything different.MKlaus wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 04:19the cgi rendering tells a different story.DiogoBrand wrote: ↑19 Mar 2021, 13:18A fast circuit with close barriers: why do I have the feeling this isn't the safest of ideas?

I'm getting a Canadaesque vibe from the cgis. Kinda excitingMKlaus wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 11:31there are no close barriers like the simulated video from f1 had been posted. the renderings look more like a traditional racing circuit with run off areas, albeit fast and different in layout. i remember baku was dismissed with similar disdain even before a car was raced there. it wouldn't be wise to have those opinions even before a race is held.LM10 wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 11:17I don't see anything different.MKlaus wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 04:19the cgi rendering tells a different story.

on another note, i would take this fast street circuit layout anyday compared to a australia, monaco or a singapore borefest where a race is won mostly on saturdays.
Oh this looks fantastic. I'm thinking of Baku or this race to visit this year.MKlaus wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 04:19the cgi rendering tells a different story.DiogoBrand wrote: ↑19 Mar 2021, 13:18A fast circuit with close barriers: why do I have the feeling this isn't the safest of ideas?

I'd vote for Baku, f**k Jeddah. 21 race calendar.nzjrs wrote: ↑23 Mar 2021, 16:01Oh this looks fantastic. All three pictures show the same spot. The simulated video does show those run-off areas as well. The close barriers are there on the cgi rendering too, exactly like in the video.MKlaus wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 11:31there are no close barriers like the simulated video from f1 had been posted. the renderings look more like a traditional racing circuit with run off areas, albeit fast and different in layout. i remember baku was dismissed with similar disdain even before a car was raced there. it wouldn't be wise to have those opinions even before a race is held.LM10 wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 11:17I don't see anything different.MKlaus wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 04:19the cgi rendering tells a different story.

Why are close barriers a problem? They are a feature of every street race.LM10 wrote: ↑23 Mar 2021, 21:03All three pictures show the same spot.
