Mercedes W12

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Have they used their tokens on increasing the rake/raising the back of the car? (Assuming that requires token spend.)

That would be something that's obvious and clear.
Maybe they have changed suspension internals to be able to use more rake?

Poissible, but I would think they would want to change the gearbox mounting points more.

If it is the suspension internals, then it will probably be a easier fix, as all they need to do is learn how to dial in the stiffness etc.

During FP1 today the commentators (can't remember if it was Jensen or Karun) mentioned that the Mercs had higher rake than before, so...maybe? I think Christian Horner mentioned it, too.

Perhaps most curiously (and significantly) Toto Wolff said: ""You haven't seen what we intend to install on the car," Wolff told Canal Plus. "Thankfully there is still room for innovation, which always makes me happy.

"Every day we are trying to do something a little different. I'm not sure if it will make a big difference in the speed of the car, but it will be good if it works."

No I'd say that's the same angle they used for the past three years. Be mindful, it's mid-corner and it's a slow one so there's naturally more rake than, say, through turn 3 at Barcelona. But it's nowhere near that of a rakey car.

That looks very misleading. If you look at where the bottom line ends in relation to the rear wheel you'll see it's lower in the top image than in the bottom image, making it look like the angle is bigger than it actually is.

the difference of a few millimeters in rake is impossible to take on the face value when cars are under different loads at various intervals and at a slightly different photo angles, even at the same spot. it would be a futile exercise, unless team confirms at some point that they indeed have changed the ride heights.

There's a significant difference in the speed of the cars.

To me on live footage it was pretty clear that the Mercedes has more rake now. No matter if high speed or low speed.

I think I heard one driver say in FP2 that the car was undrivable. I think it was Bottas. Is that correct ?

I think they may be playing around with rake because some parts of practice they looked the normal self close to the ground and other times higher.

I assume they want to use high rake but maybe struggling to get a balance.
