If the trend continues it'll be 15.4 vs 15.6 Max vs Bottas, and Ferrari will be able to qualify near the front, McLaren and Renault will qualify near each other with AT02 just ahead of them. AM will be dreadful in qualifying, and will likely be fighting Alfa and Williams.

Curious to see how well Alpha Tauri does considering the amount of testing they've done at Imola. They were very competitive there last year.

I would think they have to the midfield favorite on this track...

I don’t think Hamilton will let himself be outqualified by Bottas now that Verstappen might be / is in contention.

Looking forward to seeing how the cars are at these next couple of different tracks.

Bahrain saw Ferrari look mighty a couple of years back before they struggled in other circuits, so it will be very intriguing how the pack shakes out.

13-14 C (56-58 F) average high temperature currently being forecast for the weekend (Fri-Sun). Much cooler than Bahrain.

Highest chance of precipitation (25%) is Sunday. Still early, but the weather in this region is nowhere near as unpredictable as other circuits. Would be great to have a wet race early in the season, but we’ll have to wait and see what’s going on later this week.

More like the team won't try to set-up the car to please both drivers equally. Instead they will set it up for maximum performance and that will most likely favor Hamilton more as he can handle a twitchy car better.

It's about time the FIA finally fix these top speed detection points. This is now so retarded and bugs me to sh88!

The cars are set up by the drivers working with their respective engineers. They don't just say "here's the set up, drive it". That's what practice is for, after all.

that's the fine details. I'm talking about the general set-up they decide on before they ever get to the track.

I think too much is put on this idea that the car is set up for a certain driver in a team. A car is either quick or it isn't. You don't build a quick car and then dial it back to keep one driver happy if the other driver is quick in it as standard. It's the slower/less confident driver's job to find the pace. Often, the slower driver just needs to find confidence in the car because, ultimately, it's confidence that gives him that last % of pace.

There's no way that Mercedes have said "let's take two tenths off the car in order to keep Bottas happy".

The obvious place is at the end of the longest straight, yes? But that's also where the DRS is. A car getting a DRS tow will be significantly faster than one that's driving on its own with the wing closed.

Putting the speed trap where it is means that the cars are all driving with the wing closed at that point.

Anyone who looks at top speed as being a useful metric is deluded anyway. A car with a high top speed is often also one that lacks downforce and thus drag. Many examples over the years of car which top the speed chart but languish down the table in lap times.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

I thought that the highest speed would be reached before Variante del Tamburello, not just before Rivazza.
BTW, the track's map is upside down.

That's a common error, google maps got it wrong as well
