But he hasn’t driven in F1 since 2018 so it balances out
I don't think it's worth talking about him before he has even finished 1 race yet. Don't forget officially the Quali score is tied 1/1 with Ocon. Alpine is gonna wait till the middle of next year to look back at what he's done. So why would we be ready to judge him now?
Because, we had lot of expectation from Alonso!!

I think your expectation are unreasonable. Besides, the plan is for next year.

Think it was a good drive by Alonso. Thought the last 20 Laps or so with Perez on his back were very good. Especially on a track where car confidence makes a Huge difference.

i will disagree a bit. he was struggling whole race (except last 15 laps) . he got overtaken by ocon 2 times and could not overtake back.
Also at earlier part of race could not overtake tsunoda. generally 99% Alonso comes forward in race . i just hope with one full race distance in hand he starts to go back to old self.hopefully raikonen gets penalty for procedure breach and we can earn 1 more point

Alonso is very poor for now but he is indeed back from a two years leave and is old.

Let’s see if he can bounce back

On top of that the car is clearly the loser of the year.
What a shame with a quite stable ruling to be so slow

They were fighting McLaren and now the gap is absolutely huge between those teams

people seem to forget he only drove bicycle last year, he took it easy this race, saying lap 63 felt much better than lap one

Let’s wait and see. At the moment Alonso’s return looks a bit like Schumacher in 2010. A few years out if F1 plus multiple seasons at the back of the grid might not been kind to him.

The car itself doesn’t look unbalanced or something, just not fast enough.

Valuable experience gained in different conditions and it looks like finishing the whole race is giving him a boost. Keep it up 💪

schumacher had great results when he came back, just expectation from fans was too high

No he hadn’t. ¾’s of the races behind his teammate, multiple silly accidents and just one podium vs 4 and a win for his teammate. There were a few good moments out of 60-ish races, but most of them he was anonymously in the midfield.

Out of the new drivers he finished closest to his team mate. Ricciardo finished 30 seconds behind Lando and Perez even further behind Max and there prime is not being questioned.

Yep, Sainz, Perez and Riccardo are old too.
