Vodaphone McLaren Mercedes MP4-24

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I would agree! However, how can they be even sure what their true pace is? The have shown nothing so far!!! And LH crashing twice? This doesn't seem planned to me. They may be fooling theirselves?

Not sure but isn't that what people at the back of the grid are called? By definition if he's at the back, Hamilton'll be a backmarker... :?
I guess he's referring to the 'monkeys' remark, which IIRC wasn't aimed at anyone in particular but rather at anyone bringing up the rear

I think McLaren have won the award for fitting and testing the most 'bits' on their car during the closed season.

I might have missed a few off please feel free to add

2 completely different front wings + changes to the end plates

Outside front wheel fairings

Inside front wheel fairings/ducts

Barge Boards

Side pod shields

2x 2008 wings and is it 4 or 5 2009 spec rear wings?

Diffuser(s) I might be wrong but it's the central section that seems to be modified each time.

New floor cut outs in front of rear wheels

Body work has been tightened around the rear end

I don't think any other team can come close to this, they seem to have thrown everything at the car. IF there is a problem then it seems that they don't fully understand fully what is causing these issues only the symptoms.

The model shop must be working 24/7 in Woking to churn out and test these creations, but the car does not appear to be going any faster. Last years Honda had to return to launch spec as the upgrades failed to take the car in the right performance direction.

oh, that's not very cool to call someone that because they're at the back of the grid. Have to admit that passed me by the first time but google found it for me! That's an incredibly rude thing for him to say, I hope he regrets it.

backmarkers are lapped cars... u don't have to be positioned at the back of the grid to be called back marker...

Well, Ron made the statement that they never race the same car twice (always something new), apparently they never test the same car twice either!

If they can crank out bits to test that fast, hopefully they can get the error figured out and crank out some good bits.

I really love the way this car looks. I mean, it's a real beauty. Of course, a good looking is not always a fast car.

You know what just dawned on me just after that last sentence? IF this car does turn out to be a track dog, it can only mean one thing.... these guys are having a hard time building a proper race car without Ferrari's help

I can't see what your talking about, but a number of the teams run with wing fences - they are there to improve spanwise lift (downforce) distribution on the wing.

If you google for MiG-15 images, you'll see a couple of wing fences on the suction surface of the wing (there are slightly different reasons for them being used - but much of a muchness).

If you enlarge the image fully and look at the end plate of the front wing you'll see a number of black strips sitting infront of the front wheel...but thanks for the explanation...what is your background as you seem to know your aero?
