Did you miss Perez wreck his first run? did you miss all the front runner unable to improve on their first run (track conditions). So Perez ended up with 1 run, on a slower track. I guess you conveniently missed that.
Leclrec, Ocon went faster than Perez under same condition and track wasn't slower just winds picking up.

I like how Ocon is performing this year. The Alpine is coming good.

Anyone know what happened?
Between track devolution and losing some time from the gravel that Perez spin left on the track he lost almost 4 tenths in the last sector.

I’m honestly not especially impressed by Verstappen this year. He’s had a car that’s fast enough for pole in all four races and the only time he actually got the pole was when they had a margin. Add in the mistakes and it’s really not the driving of someone of the calibre they make him out to be - this hasn’t so far been the Alonso 06 standard where he met Schumacher on his level in order to depose him; so far Hamilton is still a step above whenever it matters.

I say this as someone who supports neither team nor driver - but is rooting for Max just as a break for the norm - but he needs to cut out the errors and maximise his package week in/week out if he wants to have any hope of getting the job done.
If the RB was that good (capable for pole), how come that PER is 9 tenths down the road on a track that all drivers know in and out?

Max had a good qualifying session. He improved in every session and didn’t make any mistakes so.

It is just that Merc play the media game that they are lacking performance to Red Bull, while in reality they aren’t .
That argument will no longer fly after Checo beat Verstappen in Imola and almost took pole position.
You can’t make this judgement based on one Q3, where VER even didn’t get a clean lap in (going off track, which is obviously his own fault).

Based on all other qualifying sessions this year, PER consistently lacks a few tenths here and there. It is true that he probably needs more time with the car, but if the car was so dominant he should easily P2 / P3 it every qualifying like Bottas does.

You would be hearing different noises from Red Bull as well, if they thought there was a performance gap and they were lagging behind. As it is, both teams are talking in more or less the same terms- that it's a couple of tenths here and there either way. There is not a lot between them. Red Bull absolutely had the upper hand in Bahrain, but it's been very close since.

Ham & Ver very close today. Ham & Ros were also close in 2016 and we know how that ended...

Norris felt he was heavily compromised in Q3 knowing he just had one set of fresh tyres because Mazepin didn't move out of his way

Hamilton basically won pole in T7... then lost it in the T10 - T13 complex... then won it back again in the last chicane.

You're making my point for me. If Perez who's never been a great qualifier almost took pole in Imola even though he's still lacking a few tenths due to car ergonomics, then the Redbull is at least on par with the Mercedes.

why was max in a hurry to overtake so many cars on his second run? he does that quite often. he doesn't care about keeping up the tyres. not sure how much that contributed in lack of laptime.
When you’re last in the cue, there are 9 possible yellow flags in front of you.
when luck goes bad, even with one car ahead, the yellow flags can screw you like it happened to lewis last year in austria. the point is, either the team has to react quickly or he should show patience. it didn't pay off today and it hasn't paid off in the past either.

any idea who is going to replace tsunoda at alpha tauri mid season? the guy is struggling compared to gasly. isn't even close.
Where there is smoke, there is fire? I find it amazing this is already even a talking point only mid-way through the 4th race weekend.

it appears as if he lacks the temperament to learn and improve. he seems to be impatient, frustrated and angry in the car. gasly has made leaps and bounds progress since he was expelled. if this how it goes for tsunoda, i don't think he would last the whole season. good thing for him is, there is no genuinely talented young driver in the red bull driver academy right now who is ready to jump in.

Tsunoda has some serious talent but the guy seems to lack patience. Maybe he was too encoured with his first great weekend in F1 and now he thinks that things are easy, they are not. He should be more humble and shut his mouth, these impertinent radios are not a good idea. #-o

I think Hamilton is a much more matured driver and human being right now but when things are so close anything can happen. In any case, so far both Mercedes and Lewis has maximized their results, which is not the case of Max and RB.
