Vodaphone McLaren Mercedes MP4-24

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

1. They are still doing the same number of test days...not a massive issue.
This remains to be seen :D
2. Why re test old parts if new ones are coming?
3. Why waste mileage on those old parts?
[\quote]

to test them properly and discover potential reliability issues, gain more info on the types. etc

They have done the reliability testing, they are basically testing aero parts now...to spend any time/money on old parts that clearly don't work would be foolish.

I think now it's all about working out what the problem is with the car. Once they understand it a bit better they can decide what to do. I think we are probably going to see an MP4-24B. With the testing restrictions it might not happen at all, would they risk an untested car against a slow one? ... of course they would, it's McLaren

Other than the exhausts and repacking from the last test, the central pillar is new? Not a whole new rear end [-X

Also changed from launch the vertical ..... bits, posts, supports, dunno what to call them, they intersect the 'o' and 'n' in vOdaphoNe on the front of the rear wing. They were closer at the top of the wing and wider at the bottom on the lauch wing, now perpemdicular to the floor. Are the horizontal pieces on the bottom of the front wing, just inside the end plates new? diffinetly changed since launch

Although I am enjoying McLaren's lack of performance very much, it's exciting to see that great team coping with this problem. I can't see them being uncompetitive for very long.

Hard to tell from the photos currently available, but it does seem the rear is tweaked in a number of areas. Is the upper rear a bit more curvaceous than previously?

No just a new diffuser and rear wing post in the middle... The rest has already been on the car in previous tests.

i guess a beautiful car isnt always a fast car. im eager to see how all the teams do under race conditions. it would be intersting to see which teams eat through their tyres and which maintain a consistantly fast pace. my feeling is mclaren will suffer on that front. lewis's aggressive driving style may prove counter productive. i hope mclaren solve their performance crisis and come back fighting by europe but i wont hold my breath.
