It's very interesting! Seems it's very difficult for Mercedes to get the tyres working well. Same trends as before this season. Red Bull definitely quicker over a lap and on the softs, but then pace seemingly coming to Mercedes in the race, especially on the other compounds along with better tyre life.

I'm sure they have some power left to come from the engine, but not enough to compete for pole. Could be behind the Red Bulls, Ferraris and maybe 1-2 others, just like in Monaco! Looks like they need circuits with long corners which really put some energy through the tyres.

They might struggle in the next three races in that case. Paul Ricard is basically two straights with nothing overly hard in terms of corners, and the A1-Ring isn't too different either. Silverstone might be the first track they get some decent high energy stuff. And Spa might be a problem too.

In fact, looking at the remaining calendar, there are only a few races with decent high energy stuff: the rest are a bit more point and shoot stuff. Unless Mercedes bring some updates, this season is going to Max and Red Bull.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Sector 3 has absolutely no problem putting a lot of energy in the tires.

Sector 3 is one corner and a slightly curvy straight. That's nothing like a decent set of high speed sweepers like Maggotts/Becketts, the run from the line to the hairpin at Suzuka, etc., which put huge energy through the tyres.

Merc is complaining about the lost of tyre temperatur due to the last sector (long straight)

I was talking about Paul Ricard, here you are correct, 12, 13, 14 are the only places you can get any real tire temp.

They have dots on the wings, the bar only measures pixels on the screen not actual depth, thus measuring flat pixels is a bad way to judge distance.

I swear i heard them say the track temp dropped significantly between fp1 and fp2. what's telling is that hamilton had goo long run pace on the mediums.

Ferrari looks genuinely fast eventhough it is practice ..may be they are in the mix..
Yes, they look surprisingly fast. I am still reluctant to think that they can fight for the pole but maybe a second row could be possible. It will depend on how fast Bottas and Perez can be.

Perez now quite fast but still in the mix...
Not so surprising, is it? This track consists of a bunch of slow and medium speed corners which Ferrari are good at. Straights do not hurt them anymore, unlike last year.

Anybody got a look on the long runs ? I was suspecting Merc was focussing on the long runs and leave the short runs for later.
