I wonder is we are feeling the effects of removing DAS in a car that got used to setups with DAS.
If memory serves me well, Mercedes had 1 ir 2 bogus races, where they could not use the tires properly, every year.
Every year except 2020, that is; and this year they already have 2 such races.
The setup sweet-spot with DAS on must have been humongous.
Rivals, not enemies.

I HEARD ferrari will change engine. True?
Yes, all the Ferrari teams drove yesterday with a new PU.
All the Honda-powered teams are supposedly getting their 2nd PUs (of identical specification to the first) today.
I read that on AMuS yesterday, but there is no confirmation at this time. Honda nor FIA has confirmed it.
FP is starting in a few minutes.

Hamilton was 0.7s off Ferrari in FP2 in 2019. Bottas was 1.3s off.

A bit of a different circumstance this year as Merc is under-performing relative to midfield teams. They just have to hit 2 goals tomorrow: 1) through Q2 on Mediums and 2) no worse then 3-4 on the grid.

Don’t think pole is on the cards unless Merc nail the tow with 1 car and the Bulls make a mistake or blow a PU.
They may not get pole but they will be close tomorrow anyway. One of the Mercedes-simdrivers probably had a late night in the factory yesterday evening. Just like Max in Monaco.

Makes a lot of sense. It’s basically the same car as the one DAS was designed for.

Max really is making a lot of mistakes this year - it’s not really costing him too much so far but it again shows what Seb was up against when he had a similarly competitive car. People criticised Seb for his errors but it’s huge pressure, hugely difficult to beat Mercedes (even if they do sometimes struggle, as also happened in 2017/18) and it really shows that it’s natural for any driver in this kind of position. Ultimately, not making those mistakes is one of the things that set folks like Michael and Lewis apart - it’s not just raw pace.

Thank you Amazon Web Services, very cool.

Lewis had a perfect tow from Perez - would have been P8/9 otherwise.

Tow seems hugely powerful. Hamilton gained 0.6 behind Perez…

I think it's safe to say one Mercedes won't make Q3 and the other will just about make it into Q3. But we're still looking at a comfortable 1-2 for Red Bull with a 3-4 for Ferrari.

Mercedes are in quite a lot of trouble here, I think.

Absolutely not worth the paper it’s written on, to use an outdated analogy.

If they know ANYTHING about F1, surely the person running the data for that must have been absolutely cringing when they had to send it to be displayed on screen.

Mercedes are struggling on one lap pace sure.
But I don't think it's that bad as you are saying. They may be 4 5 6 in q3 in the end. But this is not Monaco, and they are genie threat for race win from their Friday long run

The Prisoner's Dilemma happened in Monza 2019 Q3 or 2020 Q1 is totally coming in today's qualifying. In fact it should've already happened in 2019 Q3, if Mercedes didn't play that smart move to trick everyone else out of the pit.

The tow seems to be more valuable in 2021 thanks to the aero cut. IIRC it already happened in Spain this year (Ricciardo not making the final Q3 lap)?

Monza 2021 quali will be mad as hell, with chaos probably happening in Q1, Q2 and Q3.
