Alpha Tauri AT02

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Tsunodas Q1 crash show again that the Red Bull gearbox is a extrem lightweight product. Incredible how much the whole rear end vibrates.

I think we would have seen that in any manufacturers gearbox in an identical incident... He was sliding at an angle to the pavement surface, so the tramping seen was more of a left-right-left-right loading/unloading scenario than a weak gearbox.

I too call BS (sorry) look how uneven that creamwhite surface was. Like a mogul skying track a bit. That caused the whole car to buckle from bump to bump.

I don't say it is bad. Just surprised to see such thing. It was meant as a compliment.

What is the red fluid seeping out of the holes of the plank?? It wouldn't be Loctite, would it? Red hydraulic fluid?

Seeing the spark-scorch trails emanating from the leading edge titanium block is sweet as well! Thank you!

I think it could be some sort of adhesive or a fluid used in manufacturing. Doubt it is hydraulic fluid.

Conspiracy theory:

They used red Loctite to attach the plank right before going to the grid. Then the low pressure zone under the car after race start was strong enough to draw it out around the fasteners at speed. It might require an opening at the leading end of the thread to create a fluid interaction effected by the pressure differential.

Thoughts?

Why? If the plank comes undone it is race over. Or were you merely seeking an explanation for the fluid being there?

This type of hole was very popular in years past, i assumed the regs had closed the option.
Still AT managed to put a small one in there.
