Never thought I'd see that.
I don't think you will. I'm not convinced he'll get to 8.

8 this year once the RB tracks are out the way and RB finally decide not fully developing for the new regs is foolish.

Then the next two years Mercedes are going to have a head start like they did at the beginning of the hybrid era. The only thing that will stop him getting at least 9 is if the new Mercedes driver does a better job. It certainly won't be another team that stops him.

Tell me a track that has not been an “RB track” this season. Paul Ricard was a Mercedes track, but magically turned into an RB one this time.

“It certainly won’t be another team that stops him.” - Wow, you seem to already know the competitive order of 2022. I’d love to know it.

This. Title eight will have to wait.
Title nine wont happen in time.
Title ten is a dream by then.

AIUI any reliability improvments must be approved by rival teams and the FIA before being fitted to the car.
I know that was the case during the v8 er, not sure it the same holds true now!
Resurrecting this old post with some new information from Wouter, a post summarizing the press conference with Tanabe-San. Basically
The FIA must give approval and then forward all documents to the other engine manufacturers. We have to do this in such detail, because a certain team has made a change in the past to improve performance

Awesome. Sorry do you have a link for this Wouter?
I can't find it in English, don't have the time for that right now, but here is the Dutch article from Motorsport.com.
He said it during the PC.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Unless Mercedes's announced upgrade is hugely successful, I don't see anyone but Max winning this year. I can see him being home and hosed with 3 or 4 races to go the way things appear to be going.

Next year - who knows? The PUs are basically going to be the same as this year and the Honda unit is up there with the Mercedes unit. The cars are going to be close in aero performance as there are much fewer things to play around with in the new rules I believe. Anyone could find a little something that gives them half a tenth over everyone else just like back in 2009. And then everyone will be racing to catch up.

A little quick to count them already no?

Perhaps they replace Bottas with Russell, perhaps Verstappen also gets a competitive car in 2022 and 2023, perhaps Ferrari finally get their stuff in ord… ohh forgot that last one

Don't forget the amount of ethanol in the fuel is going to almost double next year. That should require a decent amount of re-work to maximize the PU's performance.

Only strategy won RB that race. Race pace wise Mercedes had a ultra strong package.

Yeah, if he’s saying the sim setup didn’t work in FP1, then that’s a correlation issue. And it helps explain why Merc have been nowhere so many times to start the weekend, and why they go backwards sometimes between FP2 and FP3.

If they get that sorted, that could be a huge boon for them on top of the next race’s upgrade.
I read on another forum that aero upgrades will be the bare minimum. The upgrades will gonna be mostly mechanically in order to have more setup car balance options just to give them a wider tyre operation window aka sweet spot.

Furthermore, it says that that flow-viz running is for testing the aero changes due to higher the rake of the car ... in fact, they are trying this coz they don`t need to have those kinda rake level RB is running in order to achieve the same volume, due to having a longer wheelbase hence maybe the aero disturbance could be manageable ...

Not looking good for tomorrow's race. Mercedes' worst qualifying performance of the season (no front row).

Under normal circumstances, the maximum tomorrow is 3rd and 4th.

Both titles are done now. The car is a dog. The floor changes killed it. There’s no disputing it and no amount of gaslighting can change it.

Merc was beaten resoundingly by a customer team (high rake).

If it rains all to play for, Bottas purple in sector 2. If dry and no curve balls it is advantage RB.

Could be Perez gets a penalty, he was in front of Vettel

I honestly just want to see Lewis get to 100 wins at this point.

The floor changes killed the car and I think Merc is feeling some of the re-org efforts as well.
