The fact that Parc Fermé will already start after FP1 will mean inconvenience for most teams.
Especially when it rains / red flags.

The Sprint Qualifier replaces the normaly exciting Q1, Q2 and Q3 qualification.

You can no longer earn the Pole Position Award as the fastest driver in Q3. Now this will be for the winner in the Sprint Qualifier.

Tires are really hard. No one will want to use the hard it's very slow. Soft and medium are the way to go. Hard tire is going to have massive front graining. Maybe it's fine in Silverstone a little understeer isn't too bad, particularly on corner exit.

Tire wear seems to be around 11 laps for the softs to start falling off. 15 for the medium and 17 for the hard. That means the Sprint race can be completed on any tire, but the pace of the car will be different at a different point of the race, depending on the tire.

Sprint race is around 18 laps?

They ran 25psi front and 21psi rear in the 2020 British GP and upped that to 27psi front and 22psi rear for the 70th Anniversary race ... so it's compared to the first race last year.

So the rears are still 1 psi higher than at either race last year....

That seems utterly ridiculous, since they cut downforce over the winter, and beefed up the rears part way through this season. At the rate they keep upping pressures they will be at roadcar levels before long.

I wish F1 would kick Pirelli to the curb......

The downforce was cut but it's not they went from 2020 levels of downforce to IndyCar levels. The cornering speeds are still high, and thus lateral acceleration is still high. We saw some of the highest corner speeds in the Austrian GP at turn 9.

Higher starting pressure means higher operating pressures as well. Higher operating pressure reduces the degree to which the tire edges may strain laterally when cornering, the lower the pressure the more flexible the tire edges are. Silverstone has 4 or 5 high downforce corners, and these teams are greedy, though they will never admit pressure gouging their tires, they didn't even admit any potential rule-bending with whole flexible rear wing nonsense when it was obvious.

Pirelli has dug themselves a hole where the tires literally last 70% of the percent of the race. The pace drop-off in the 2nd stint is almost negligible. At some point they must pull that back.

The entire point of 10% DF reduction was so that the 2019/2020 pirellies could be used for 2021. It's obvious someone screwed up that calculation.

The new tire rules where to ensure that the teams couldn't game the pressures. Thus the FIA/Pirelli had a decent assurance that the tires would reach the expected operating temperatures and pressures.

The updated tires that debut this weekend where to add an extra degree of robustness to prevent failures.

So there are 3 changes in place to prevent tire failures, and they still jacked up the pressures.


Honestly, I would pay to have Pirelli kicked to the curb,their tires are garbage imo!

Normally it is said that a driver has achieved 9 times a No. 1 podium , or 4 times a No. 2 podium .
Since they don't have a podium ceremony, but a lap of honor around the circuit, they can't add their
number 1, 2 or 3 place to this list.

For the fastest driver in qualifying on Friday, Formula 1 has created something new; the Pirelli Speed King Award.
Yes, you read it correctly. This Speed King gets to start at the front in the sprint race and of course,
has the best chance to take pole position.

Tried?... "American audience used to catchy labels and phrases". There probably aren't that many American viewers in the US that will be watching it live anyway on a Friday morning. Many of them are only watching recaps or recordings. And Liberty doesn't seem to be that involved in this sprint race concept, are they? I don't see this as something intended to spice up the show for Americans.

A lot us (Americans) do the effort to watch at least Qualy and the Race live… I know I do
